Emma Watson Joins Laughing Campaign Against Turkish Deputy Prime Minister

The politician's comments have sparked an outcry.

Actress Emma Watson has posted a picture on Twitter of herself in hysterics as part of a campaign against comments made by Turkish politician Bülent Arınç. #laugh #direnkahkaha @UN_Women

Women have been uploading pictures of themselves laughing after the deputy prime minister said women should not be seen laughing in public because it contributed to worsening “moral corruption" in the country.

#direnkahkaha araba da surerız, kızkıza da gezeriz, kahkaha da atarız.

A man should be moral but women should be moral as well, they should know what is decent and what is not decent. She should not laugh loudly in front of all the world and should preserve her decency at all times.

The response has been rather wonderful.

Lol @bulent_arinc ha ha ha #kahkaha #direnkahkaha #direnlol :))))

Yoğun istek üzerine #direnkahkaha Arınç' ve avarelerine gelsin...

Turkish women, nay, all women can laugh in public if they darn well want to! #direnkahkaha

#direnkahkaha We are with you girls! #kahkaha #Italy

Today I'm laughing in solidarity with turkish women #direnkahkaha

Stop laughing - cuz @bulent_arinc said so! #direnkahkaha

Last month it was announced Watson had been appointed a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.

Her appointment was so popular it crashed the UN's website.
