This Quiz Will Determine If You're Actually Recycling Correctly

Feeling flustered by all the recycling rules? Recycling Simplified by Republic Services will help get you right!

  1. True or false:
    You should recycle Bubble Wrap.

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    False!

Bubble wrap can’t be recycled. Try to reuse it and if you can’t, dispose of it.

  2. Which of these can you recycle?

    Correct!
    Wrong!

Paper and cardboard gift boxes can be recycled.

Don’t recycle ribbons, bows, cellophane, or packing peanuts! Find a new way to use these products or throw 'em out.

  3. True or false:
Embellished (i.e., foil- or glitter-decorated) wrapping paper can't be recycled.

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    True!

Double-check to make sure your wrapping paper is plain before throwing it in the recycling bin. Reuse or dispose of any wrapping paper that is embellished. Better yet, why not opt for recyclable wrapping paper or gift bags? FYI: Newspaper makes for a great substitute, and you can throw it in the recycling. ;)

  4. Should you recycle clothing?

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    No way, dude.

Give those old clothes a new home — just not in the recycling bin! Clothing can’t be recycled.

  5. True or false:
Paper and cardboard, metal cans, and plastic bottles and jugs are generally all recyclable.

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    True!

As a general rule, paper and cardboard, metal cans, and plastic bottles and jugs are recyclable as long as they’re empty, clean and dry.

  6. True or false:
    All plastic bags are recyclable.

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    False!

With plastics, remember the “poke test” – if you can stick your finger through the plastic (such as a grocery bag), then it isn’t recyclable in your curbside (or household) container.

  7. Which of these should you
    avoid recycling?

    Correct!
    Wrong!

    All of the above

You might be able to repurpose some of them (it's always a good idea to donate old toys, reuse plastic bags as trash bags, and compost yard debris!), but don't recycle any of these things.
