Drake's Surprise Mixtape Is The Best-Selling Rap Album In Over A Year

If You're Reading This It's Too Late is a massive hit.

Posted on

The debut showing, the biggest for a rap album since Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in 2013, is especially impressive since it only reflects a little over three days on sale — with no distribution to physical retailers.

Breaking from the usual Tuesday morning tradition for album releases, IYRTITL was released as a surprise digital exclusive late Thursday night.

Despite being classified by Drake as a mixtape, the non-traditional release of IYRTITL actually managed to best the first-week sales of his 2010 major label debut album Thank Me Later.

It's his third best selling release after 2013's Nothing Was The Same, which debuted with 658,000 sold, and 2011's Take Care, which debuted with 631,000.
