16 Powerful Moments From Television Shows

    Spoilers ahead, obviously.

    1. O Helga Natt (Skam)

This gorgeous scene makes me wanna cry every time I see it. Isak and Even were dating, but then Isak finds out that Even is bipolar. He thinks that Even never really loved him but, as it turns out, he’s very wrong. Even texts Isak that he is at the place where that met, and this scene is what comes next. The reverse chronological order of their memories, all leading back to where they met is absolutely brilliant.

    2. The Death of Wes (How to Get Away with Murder)

Fans of How to Get Away With Murder have been speculating forever about who was under the sheet, but I don’t think anyone was prepared to see Wes, burned to a crisp. Viola Davis’s acting is what really makes this scene. You can feel her pain as she discovers the student she was the closest with has died, as well as the pain of the other student's when they find out.

    3. Walter White Dies (Breaking Bad)

While Walter White was an absolutely despicable person, he tries to make at least something right in the end, saving Jesse Pinkman from an awful fate and getting himself killed in the process. It was a powerful ending to the show.

    4. Mickey Comes Out (Shameless)

Mickey has been in the closet for four seasons, for a good reason. His father is extremely homophobic and he is afraid to stand up to him. But he finally gets the courage after his boyfriend tells him he’s done hiding. The result is a fight with his father and then this extremely memorable scene. Beware, this scene is NSFW.

    5. Jessica Kills Kilgrave (Jessica Jones)

The entire season was dedicated to Jessica Jones trying to stop her nemesis, Kilgrave. He claims to be in love with her, and had previously used his powers of mind control to keep her with him. As the season came to close, Jessica finally got her revenge.

    6. Rita Dies (Dexter)

After killing the trinity killer, Dexter goes home to find that trinity’s last kill was his own wife, Rita. His son is covered in his mother’s blood, mirroring what happened to Dexter at an early age.

    7. The Yellow (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

There are many scenes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer that I could have chosen, but I really think this scene is worthy of praise. While of course I love the scene in The Gift where Buffy sacrifices herself and that's the obvious choice, I want this scene to get the recognition it deserves. After Willow loses her girlfriend, Tara, she turns to the dark side and tries to end the world. Her best friend, Xander, gets to her at the last minute, and is able to stop her by recalling some memories of their childhood.

    8. Love Crime (Hannibal)

The last episode of this show was packed with action, with both Will and Hannibal trying to defeat the Red Dragon. In the end, with both of them bruised and bloody, Will realizes that he was meant to be with Hannibal all along, even though he tried to fight it. This leads to a very sweet hug and the two of them taking a dive off of a cliff before the police could arrive. If you have a problem with gore, you might want to avoid the video.

    9. Poussey's Death (Orange is the New Black)

While this scene is extremely controversial, one cannot deny that it is meaningful. Poussey is one of the sweetest people in the prison and yet, while protesting, is pushed to the ground and held until she couldn’t breathe. This scene mirrors the Black Lives Matter movement and is absolutely devastating.

    10. Heaven is a Place on Earth (Black Mirror)

Black Mirror is another show that has no shortage of powerful scenes, but my favorites are from San Junipero. I thought instead of giving you the horribly sad car crash scene (which you should check out anyway btw) I would give you the ending. It ends with Kelly deciding to die and stay in San Junipero with Yorkie and it’s very sweet.

    11. What's Up (Sense8)

It’s always cool to see how connected the eight main characters are, but this scene struck me as one of the best. It’s very simple and light, it’s all of them having the same song in their head, but the way it’s done is beautiful trust me.

    12. Mariah Kills Cottonmouth (Luke Cage)

This was a scene that I thoroughly didn’t expect to see. Cottonmouth talks about Maria’s rape as if it’s nothing, insisting that she wanted it. Maria then proceeds to shove him out a window and then beat him to death with a microphone stand, all the while screaming that she didn’t want it.

    13. Lana Escapes Briarcliff (American Horror Story: Asylum)

Lana Winters, after being kidnapped and raped by Bloody Face, is forced to back to the insane asylum known as Briarcliff, where, in fact, Bloody Face is a therapist. She is desperate to get a tape of him to the police, and it is so satisfying when she finally gets away.

    14. Edward Nygma's Personalities (Gotham)

The way Gotham portrays Edward Nygma’s split personalities is already great, but this scene really brings it all together nicely. After Nygma killed his girlfriend, his alter ego did everything to get Nygma to just accept who he is. And in this scene, he finally does and his personalities merge together.

    15. Eleven Kills the Monster (Stranger Things)

Everyone became very attached to Eleven during Stranger Things, but in the end she sacrificed herself to save her new friends from the monster, letting herself be taken to the Upside Down. This kind of sacrifice from a little kid is extremely touching.

    16. Daryl and Beth's F*** You (The Walking Dead)

When the group is split up, and Daryl and Beth are off on their own, they have plenty of time to bond. This leads to Beth finding out that Daryl was abused, drinking moonshine, setting a house on fire, and giving the world the finger.
