21 Useful Beauty Tips For People Who Wear Glasses

Because all four of your eyes deserve to look ~awesome.~

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. Prevent your lashes from bonking against your lenses literally every time you blink by using an eyelash curler in the morning. Giving your lashes some extra ~lift~ with a curler will push them up and away from your glasses, which should stop them from hitting your frames and causing smudges and discomfort.

    Amazon, amazon.com

This eyelash curler has more than 3,500 five-star reviews on Amazon, so you know it's the business. It'll curl your lashes without pinching or squeezing.

Promising review: “I love this curler and the amazing customer service they provide! I wear glasses and have long, but straight lashes. Without this curler, after I put on mascara, my lashes just rub against my glasses, leaving streaks. Now I can curl them perfectly and they look great!” —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $8.49+ (available in three colors).

    2. Bring some brightness to your face with a non-black liner that'll make your eyes ~pop~ even when behind dark frames.

    instagram.com

A lighter shade of liner, like gray or brown, or a fun color like teal or purple will totally make your eyes pop! Luckily, you can stock up on all those colors (and more!) with the cult-favorite Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner. The color is super intense, it won't flake or smudge, and the marker-like tip means you can customize the look you want, whether it's a super-thin line or a dramatic cat-eye.

Promising review: “This makes eyeliner so easy to apply! I'm legally blind and do my makeup by feel. Eyeliner is the hardest to do, so I've gone without it for years. I decided to give this one a shot based on the reviews and was not disappointed. It came out great and was so easy to apply! So happy to be wearing eyeliner again!” —Lowe Family

Get it from Amazon for $22 (available in 12 shades).

    3. Use the color wheel to choose eye makeup shades that are complementary to your eye color for ~maximum eye brightening~. If you're not sure exactly what shades to pick, this Shany makeup palette has 96 (!!!) shades so you can pick and choose. You'll have a great time getting to play around and experiment, and you'll be able to find the perfect shade that'll make your eye color look amazing.

    Beautylish

A complementary shade is basically anything on the other side of the color wheel — the contrast between the two makes the colors seem ~extra vibrant~. This means that, for example, blue eyes are complementary to warm brown shades, brown eyes do well with cool gray, and green eyes are perfectly set off by burgundies and purples.

Get it from Amazon for $17.05 (available in four color combinations).

A peach-toned concealer will wipe out dark circles on light-to-medium skin, but if you have dark-to-deep skin, you'll want to use more of an orange-toned concealer, or even just straight-up red. L.A. Girl concealers come as a set of three: green, yellow, and orange (aka everything you'll need!).

Get them from Walmart for $10.

    5. Try a bright red lip that'll keep the focus from being entirely on your specs, and can help you feel polished on days when you don't feel like wearing eye makeup.

    amazon.com

The Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks come in a whole variety of shades of red — 18 reds! Who knew there were so many reds? Meaning you'll be sure to find one that's just right for your skin tone. Commenters also rave about how comfortable and long-lasting they are, which is such a rarity for matte lipsticks.

Promising review: “This is by far my favorite color and feel of lipstick I've had to date. I've worn it all day and only had to reapply it once since I ate and drank a bunch. In my photo (above), I drank a whole cup of coffee and the color didn't fade (I only swiped once, so it could be a little darker if applied a little more).” —Nicole H.

Get it from Amazon for $6.31+ (available in 18 shades).

Promising review: “I was so pleasantly surprised with this palette. The shadows are finely milled, feel creamy, and blend out so well. They do give kickback, but that also makes them easier to blend so I don't mind it. It has beautiful pigment regardless. I use makeup just for myself and for fun so this works beautifully for those purposes. There are a lot of nice matte transition colors and the shimmer ones are lovely to work with and sit really nice on the lids. I definitely recommend.” —Daniella

Get it from Amazon for $11.88.

    7. Take the vacation vibes home with a set of mini travel brushes so you can avoid hitting your mirror with too-long brush handles. With these lil' guys, you'll be able to get way closer to the mirror without having to worry about the brush handles getting in the way.

    Ulta

Sometimes you gotta get up close and personal with the mirror, because that's literally as far as you can see without your glasses on, and science hasn't yet invented a way to put on eyeshadow while still wearing glasses. Until then, a travel brush set is a great solution.

Promising review: “I wear glasses and I can't see anything more than half a feet away from my face. So when I apply makeup, I need to be CLOSE to the mirror as possible to see what I am doing. This brush set is PERFECT for that. The quality is great, they have soft bristles, and you get the whole set (lips/brows, eyes, cheeks) for a decent price in a travel pouch. Everybody wins!" —iMoo

Get it from Ulta for $30.

    8. Counteract any shadows that may be cast by your frames with a brightening under-eye concealer. It'll help make you look *extra* awake, and can make your eyes really pop from behind your glasses.

Promising review: “I'm over 30 and this product does wonders for my dark circles. I've worn glasses for most of my life and I think that contributed to my dark under-eyes. I dab this on with the little sponge applicator and use my beauty blender sponge to blend it in. It does a good job of brightening my under eye area and combined with my foundation, makes my circles vanish.” —SaraBee

Get it from Amazon for $7.40+ (available in 12 shades).

    9. Add a quick, polished touch while still achieving a natural look by swiping on neutral lip color that's close to your skin tone. A classic MLBB (that's "my lips but better") will let bright frames take center stage.

    amazon.com

This Revlon lipstick comes in 109 (!!!!) shades, so you're sure to find the perfect nude lip among them.

Promising review: “You put it on and it stays on. It's not waxy, runny, or oily. It's very good, I'm impressed. I've been wearing cosmetics for almost 35 years, and I can tell you I have tried them all and I know all cosmetics from the expensive kinds to the drugstore brands. I could probably write a book on which products to buy that will save you money. This is great lip color and lasts very long. I can't find it anywhere except here. I used mine until I had to use a Q-tip to get the last of my color from my old lipstick container until I found this. Thank you.” —Analog

Get it from Amazon for $4.97+ (available in 109 shades).

For more options, check out BuzzFeed Reviews for the best matte lipsticks at any price point.

    TopKnot, Amazon

Winged liner can be tough on even the most seasoned makeup-wearer, so consider a double-sided eyeliner stamp to help you get it exactly right. This incredible invention will place a perfectly crisp wing right on your lid in no time flat, and all you have to do is connect it with the pen-sided liner.

Promising review: “I’m a makeup artist so I can do anything with makeup, but on myself I never get my cat-eye the way I want it. The left or right is always a little off, so I decided to order this. Money well-spent! OMG, does it ever work! I bought the largest one and my cat-eye is incredible! Meow. Cleopatra better watch out when I use this. I have hooded eyes and that can be a problem, well that and I need my glasses to see what I’m doing. Not anymore. Don’t hesitate. I live in Florida, work in a hot salon, and walk one mile to and from work. It does not budge.” —roberta bowers

    11. Apply some Nerdwax to the inside of your nosepads to keep them from falling down your face all day and smudging your foundation.

    instagram.com / Via @nerdwax

Nerdwax is made of all-natural oils and waxes that are specifically formulated to keep your glasses in place. Just apply it to clean glasses and you shouldn't have to push your specs up for ~up to a day~!

Promising review: “After watching a repeat episode of Shark Tank, I decided to order some Nerdwax. The first time I applied to my glasses was right after getting to the office. About 90 minutes later, I realized I hadn't pushed my glasses up at all. Although impressed, I decided to hold off on a review until trying Nerdwax while wearing makeup. Nerdwax once again kept my frames in place. This is especially exciting because it was POURING RAIN! To be able to have my specs stay in place while driving in less than stellar conditions was very exciting!” —Jess Hess

Get it from Amazon for $10.99.

    12. Remember to groom your brows with a great brow gel, because while you might think they're hidden behind your specs, neat brows still play an important role in framing your face.

    instagram.com / Via @wunder2cosmetics, amazon.com

Groomed, darkened brows can bring your whole look together if you've got prominent frames, so filling your brows in can make a huge difference. Wunderbrow is a cult-fave brow product, because it lasts several days without smudging, and will give you a super sharp line.

Promising review: “As a strawberry blonde, I have trouble finding brow color that will last throughout the day. My brows are naturally blonde, so they're almost invisible without adding color. Unfortunately, all of the pencils I've tried transfer. I always end up with a stamp of my brows on my sunglasses and reading glasses. This has solved that perfectly! The color is perfect for me and it's so easy to apply. It lasts all day without leaving marks on my glasses. This is the third purchase and I will continue to be a loyal customer! Thank you!” —KB

Get it from Amazon for $22 (available in five shades).

    13. Use an LED magnifying mirror so you can get up close and personal during your makeup application, even if you're as blind as a bat without your glasses.

    amazon.com, Amazon

Promising review: “I bought this mirror because I need to wear reading glasses when doing close work. It's very difficult to put on eye makeup while you're wearing glasses! This is a high-quality mirror and the magnification and light help me to see to get my eye makeup on without having to put on my glasses. I have a small medicine cabinet with a mirror over my sink, and I put this mirror in the bottom corner of the mirror on my medicine cabinet. It worked out great! I can tilt the mirror to any position. I haven't had any issues with the suction. It holds really well. I am very pleased with my purchase.” —kelly

Get it from Amazon for $26.99+ (available in three magnification strengths).

    14. Try an online retailer like Warby Parker or EyeBuyDirect for your glasses — their prices are way cheaper than your eye doctor, so you can grab a couple pairs of bolder glasses that'll let you change up your look on the reg.

    Warby Parker, EyeBuyDirect

Try those trendy shapes that you're not quite sure if can ~pull off~! Get a super bright pair! The possibilities are basically endless, and you won't be tied to one pair of glasses that you feel like you have to match your makeup to.

    15. Discover the multiple uses of eyeshadow primer — it'll make your eyeshadow ~extra bold~ to shine through your glasses, and the same properties in it that help eyeshadow stick will also stop your glasses from slipping if you add a little dab on the bridge of your nose.

    instagram.com, amazon.com

This eyeshadow primer is paraben- and talc-free, and it's waterproof. It can also be used as a lip primer, so basically it's a face multitasking hero.

Promising review: “This primer keeps my eyeshadow in place all day. I wear glasses and I use it on the bridge of my nose to keep my them from rubbing my foundation off. I will definitely purchase this eye primer again.” —TO

Get it from Amazon for $9.49.

    16. Explore different-styled mascara wands so you can find a mascara that's longwearing and gives a ton of volume without lengthening so much that it'll leave smudges on your glasses.

    Zoe Burnett / BuzzFeed

Longggggggg lashes and glasses just don't play well together! It's annoying to blink, and it can leave your glasses all smeary by the end of the day. But plenty of mascaras just focus on volume, which will give you the lash drama you want, without the downsides. Look for mascaras with a big, fluffy brush, as opposed to one that's smaller and spikier (those are great for length!) One that fits the bill perfectly is the Elizabeth Mott It's So Big mascara — it has a large, hourglass-shaped brush which will give great volume, it has more than 3,000 positive reviews on Amazon, and it's cruelty-free!

Promising review: “This is an excellent mascara and I have tried dozens. I have very long lashes that need a little volume. That might sound like an envious position, but the long length allows many mascaras to smudge and flake, especially when wearing glasses. That does not happen with this mascara, plus it is still easy to remove at the end of the day. It gives the volume I want, too." —NV

It plays well with a ton of different skin tones, it's subtly glowy, and it'll last all day. Truly, it's the Blush Holy Grail you've been dreaming of.

Promising review: “The most beautiful blush. It is the most universally flattering color and it simply glows. This blush is pigmented, blendable, and so long wearing. It has been the only blush that I have used since I bought it in December. I have literally been reaching past my high end blushes for this one! I am in love!!” —Amy

It will absolutely lock 👏 your 👏 makeup 👏 down 👏 so there'll be no slipping or sliding of your makeup, even if your glasses are moving around all day.

Promising review: “I read reviews on this product...everyone keeps talking about baking. I'm not a huge makeup guru (wish I was) and I hardly know the difference between baking a face or a brownie. What I personally use it for: after putting on concealer/foundation, I put a VERY light layer of this powder on with a brush. I put my bronzer/blush on afterwards. I have ULTRA oily skin and this makes my skin flawless and matte. I've literally had compliments since I've started using it.” —MeganJane

Get it from Amazon for $5.67+ (available in six shades).

    19. Don't let smudges distract from your cute lil' face. Pick up a glasses cleaning kit so your lenses will be sparkling clean, and everyone will be able to see that eye look you worked so hard on.

    Amazon, amazon.com

Fingerprints on your lenses can be super distracting, both for you and for anyone trying to admire your makeup. Keep them at bay with a whole kit, complete with cleaning solution and a super-soft microfiber cloth that'll make everything as clear as crystal.

Promising review: “I don't get out of bed without my glasses. I also live in Florida where I drip sweat in the summer while gardening. Between the cleaner and their microfiber cloth, my glasses are perfectly cleaned in seconds! Before this Koala discovery, I would clean my glasses two to three times in a row because of greasy streaks that just moved around the lenses. Between cooking, dog kisses, husband kisses (in that order), ocean salt, and my own sweaty drips, my glasses take a beating. I can't say enough good things about this.” —C. Grant

Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in four sizes).

    20. Experiment with looks that play off your frames, like an ultra-trendy eye makeup look that you can create with a bold makeup palette to coordinate with clear frames.

    TopKnot

Clear-framed glasses (like the pair in the video, which are $95+ from Warby Parker) give you a lot of choices for bold eye looks. You can go super colorful, do a graphic eyeliner, or play with whatever trend is taking over Instagram at the moment, all without worrying about clashing with your glasses. A pink smoky eye is very hot right now, and luckily there are a ton of warm-toned palettes that'll help you achieve the look.

Promising review: “I was pretty surprised with this purchase. While most companies claim their products have strong and potent pigments, it's usually not the case. I have very dark eyes and eye lids so any color is hard to really pop, but this palette is the real deal. Love. It.” —Amanda

Get this highly rated palette from Amazon for $10.99.

See some more genius makeup tips in this video.

    21. Pick out a pair of false eyelashes that give you dramatic volume instead of length, and watch your eyes magically pop from beneath your glasses. Plus, falsies will last way longer than regular mascara *and* they won't smudge against your frames.

    amazon.com, Amazon

Again, this is more of a comfort issue than a hard and fast rule — if you really like the feeling of your lashes pressed against your glasses, you go ahead and rock the longest pair of lashes you can possibly find.

Promising review: “The lashes are beautiful and look good on anyone! The variety of styles is nice. You have to be careful peeling them off the pack or they tear easily, but for the price, I cant complain! They look great even through glasses, where it would be hard to tell! I'm on my second box and will continue to order more!” —Joanna Reyes

Get a set of 50 from Amazon for $13.98.

Finally, do whatever the hell you want!! There are no rules! At the end of the day, the only right way to wear makeup with glasses is the way that makes you feel comfortable and cute. Even if it breaks a "makeup rule," as long as you feel great, that's all that matters.

Me, you, and Tina know: all you need are glasses and confidence. The rest is optional.
