1. The Death Eaters were originally known as the ‘Knights of Walpurgis’.

The Knights of Walpurgis consisted of students from Hogwarts that Tom Riddle, aka Voldemort, knew from his time at school.

2. Most of those recruited were from Slytherin.

There may have been some from Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, but never any from Hufflepuff. Always the good guys eh hufflepuff?!

3. Only Voldemort's closest associates were branded with the Dark Mark.

Lord Voldemort placed the Dark Mark on his followers' inner left forearms, as a sign of their loyalty to him and as a method of summoning them when he desired. Only Voldemort's inner circle were branded which was considered a great honour among his followers. #squadgoals

4. Alecto Carrow is the only other known female Death Eater.

Apart from the wild Bellatrix Lestrange of course, yeah we all know her well. Alecto was appointed Deputy Headmistress, alongside her brother, after the fall of the Ministry of Magic in 1997, when Snape was appointed Headmaster.

5. Greyback was not an official Death Eater.

Despite his loyalty to Voldemort, Fenrir Greyback was not an official Death Eater due to the fact that he's a werewolf, but Voldemort thought Greyback as too useful and so he allowed him into his pack. (I guess he kind of used him then? Poor wolfy.)

6. Narcissa or Umbridge were also not official Death Eaters.

Narcissa Malfoy was not officially a Death Eater and was never branded with the Dark Mark, even though she was married to Lucius Malfoy and is the sister of Bellatrix Lestrange, both very well known Death Eaters. Dolores Umbridge was also never mentioned to be a Death Eater but she was a known 'sympathiser', and we still don't like her.

7. Many were manipulated as Death Eaters under the Imperius Curse.

Conductor of the Knight bus, Stan Shunpike, and Pius Thicknesse were both dressed as Death Eaters when they fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and the Battle of the Seven Potters. However, both were under the Imperius Curse at the time, and so neither of them were actually Death Eaters, at least they didn't know they were.
