10 Reasons To Be Excited About Being Back On Campus And In NY

1. Now is prime time to explore the Hudson Valley (look at all those colors!)

From farmers markets to festivals, Hudson Valley will not disappoint this Fall! Check out stuff to do here, and train schedules here.

2. SOCLR: Students of Color Leadership Retreat

SOCLR is an intensive weekend of personal development, empowerment and community building for student leaders at Barnard and Columbia who identify as African/African-American/Black, Latino/Hispanic, Asian/Asian-American, Pacific Islander, Arab and Middle-Eastern, Native & Indigenous, and Multiethnic/Multiracial.

Date: November 11-13

Application deadline: Oct. 10th @ 12pm (App will be out by mid September)

3. Sweater Weather is Upon Us!

Need more outwear and layering pieces for fall and running tight on money? Try going to thrift stores. If you are looking for something nearby try Salvation Army on 96th. If you are looking for variety try Urban Jungle (118 Knickerbocker St) and if you are looking for prices by the pound try Goodwill (47 Van Dam St.)

4. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Visit this incredible museum and learn about art from around the world and through time.

Entrance is FREE with your Columbia/Barnard student ID!

5. LGBTQ Leadership Retreat taking place from October 21st to October 23rd

The retreat is open to LGBTQ and ally students to build community, explore what brings us together, and identify how our different experiences and identities create spaces for ally-building and activism.

Come and make new friends, experience personal growth, and gain new leadership skills!

APPLY by Monday, September 26th at 12PM (noon)

6. CG Goes to Yoga

We will be meeting at 8pm in the lobby to walk to Yoga to the People, Candle-Lit session at 8:30. If you don't have your own mat, rentals are $2. We will be providing post-yoga snacks.

7. Stop by the New York Film Festival!

Since 1963, the New York Film Festival has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to NYC.

The New York Film Festival runs from September 25th to October 11th.

9. Watch the Presidential Debates!

Register to vote if you have not done so already, and then see the candidates in action for the three debates happening on Monday September 26th, Sunday October 9th and Wednesday October 18th. All of them will be from 9:00-10:30 pm EST.

Your 110 RA's will be hosting a viewing series of all three debates! So come through to see the debates on a big screen TV in the RA office in apartment 11K5 in 110. There will be treats!

In CG, you can join your RA Anna to watch the debate on Sunday, October 9th in the 10th floor lounge!

10. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!

September marks the beginning of Fall as well as Hispanic Heritage Month! Check out the upcoming festivities celebrating Hispanic culture here!
