24 Completed Series For You To Binge-Read While Stuck Inside

If cliffhangers are your mortal enemy, then this list is for you.

    1. Trouble Is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly

    Penguin, Via goodreads.com

Book Count: 3 (Trouble Is a Friend of Mine, Trouble Makes a Comeback, Trouble Never Sleeps)

What It's About: Listen, Zoe is well aware that Philip Digby is annoying and rude. But somehow, he's dragging her into a series of schemes that are dangerous, hilarious, and legally questionable — and they all seem to be related to the kidnapping of a local teenager. But is he just trying desperately to repair his family, which broke when his own younger sister was kidnapped? Trust me when I say that reading book three was one of the most satisfying reading experiences of my entire life.

    2. A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert

    Nixon House, Via taliahibbert.com

Book Count: 3 novels (A Girl Like Her, Untouchable, That Kind of Guy), 1 novella (Damaged Goods)

What It's About: The Ravenswood series starts with A Girl Like That, which follows Ruth, who is haunted by her past, and Evan, her next-door neighbor. Evan wants to help Ruth come out of her shell, but she's not sure if she can trust him with her heart. Every single book in this series has a romance trope that is my kryptonite (book one, hero who is tough on the outside and a teddy bear on the inside; book two, nanny and single dad fall in love; book three, fake dating), and Hibbert pulls them all off beautifully!

    3. We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia

    HarperCollins, Tia Reagan Photo

Book Count: 2 (We Set the Dark on Fire, We Unleash the Merciless Storm)

What It's About: The Medio School for Girls takes in distinguished young women and sets them on one of two possible paths: to become either a primera, who runs a husband's household, or a segunda, who bears his children. Daniela is the top student, but she has a dangerous secret: Her parents forged her identification papers to get her into the school. After graduation, not only is she recruited by a rebel group fighting for equality, but she finds herself falling for her biggest rival, Carmen.

    4. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

    HMH, Via robinlafevers.com

Book Count: 3 (Grave Mercy, Dark Triumph, Mortal Heart)

What It's About: A girl runs away from an arranged marriage and seeks asylum with a convent of nuns...who train her to be an assassin. That's how this remarkable trilogy begins, and it is one of my absolute favorites. Each book is told from a different point of view — each a girl trained by the convent — and all three are filled with historical intrigue, stellar worldbuilding, and swoony romance. There's also a spin-off duology, of which the second book is due out later this year.

Book Count: 2 (Beasts Made of Night, Crown of Thunder)

What It's About: In the walled city of Kos, Taj serves an aki, a young sin-eater indentured to a group of corrupt mages. The mages are able to call forth sin from a sinner, but to do so, the sin takes the form of a beast, spawned from guilt. Taj and the other aki must slay these sin-beasts. But doing so means that the guilt of the sin appears in his mind, and a tattoo of the beast appears on his skin. And when he's brought to slay the sin of a royal, he uncovers a dark conspiracy that threatens to destroy Kos and the princess he loves.

What It's About: After crash-landing on Old Earth, Ari pulls a magic sword from its resting place and is revealed to be the 42nd incarnation of King Arthur. Joining forces with a Merlin, who ages backward over the centuries and is currently a teen, Ari must break the curse that keeps Arthur coming back and also defeat a cruel and oppressive government. No biggie.

What It's About: This trilogy of novellas follows Binti, the first of the Himba people to be offered a place at the finest higher learning institution in the galaxy, Oomza University. But knowledge comes at a cost, and her journey brings her within the reach of the Meduse — a jellyfish-like alien race that was wronged by the university. The Meduse attack the ship, leaving Binti the only survivor and the only hope to bring peace between humans and the Meduse.

    8. Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa

    Viz Media, Anime Amino

Book Count: 27 (I'm not going to list them all here. Just trust me.)

What It's About: If you haven't yet ventured into the world of manga, Fullmetal Alchemist is the perfect starting point. In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and leg, and his brother Alphonse became a soul in a suit of armor. Now, amid their search for the Philosopher's Stone (the one thing that could restore their bodies), they work as agents for the government…but they aren’t the only ones searching for the Stone. These Fullmetal editions are gorgeous hardcovers with a new translation and new lettering, and perfect for the start of a manga collection. And trust me when I tell you that volume two will break your heart into tiny little pieces.

    Harper Voyager, Melissa C. Beckman

Book Count: 3 (The City of Brass, The Kingdom of Copper, The Empire of Gold)

What It's About: Nahri lives in 18th century Cairo, using her skills to make a living swindling Ottoman nobles. But one day during a con, she accidentally summons a darkly mysterious djinn warrior named Dara, and is forced to flee the city. The two journey together to Daevabad, the legendary City of Brass, where Nahri's very presence could ignite a war that has been simmering for centuries.

What It's About: Watson and Holmes: one of the most famous mystery-solving duos. Their great-great-great-grandchildren, however, are only just becoming acquainted. Jamie Watson has just landed at Sherringford — a prep school an hour away from his estranged father — on a rugby scholarship. It's here he comes face-to-face with Charlotte Holmes, and also here that he and Charlotte are framed for murder in a tale ripped straight from a Sherlock Holmes story.

    11. A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole

    Avon, Via alyssacole.com

Book Count: 3 books (A Princess in Theory, A Duke by Default, A Prince on Paper), 2 novellas (Can't Escape Love, Once Ghosted, Twice Shy)

What It's About: Alyssa Cole is an absolute romance queen and if you haven't yet read one of her books, the Reluctant Royals series is a great place to start. A Princess in Theory follows Naledi, a former foster kid and current grad student, who keeps getting emails claiming she's betrothed to an African prince. Prince Thabiso is the heir to the throne of Thesolo, and in the midst of tracking down his missing betrothed, Naledi mistakes him for a regular guy. Now he can't resist the chance of getting to know her without the crown in the picture.

    12. Half-Resurrection Blues by Daniel José Older

    Via theshipmanagency.com, Roc

Book Count: 3 (Half-Resurrection Blues, Midnight Taxi Tango, Battle Hill Bolero)

What It's About: I honestly could have picked Older's YA series Shadowshaper just as easily for this list, since I love both so dearly. But since Bone Street Rumba is the series I quite literally read in a day, here we are. Carlos is an inbetweener, partially resurrected from death without memory of his life, and he works for the New York Council of the Dead. Now he must chase down another inbetweener — a sorcerer who has summoned a horde of imp-like ngks and who wants to open the entrada to the Underworld — before the balance between the living and the dead is destroyed for good.

What It's About: Tess has just started at Hardwicke Academy — the school for children of the rich and powerful — after being uprooted from life on her grandfather's ranch and brought to DC by her estranged sister Ivy. Ivy works as a fixer, and soon enough Tess ends up doing the same at Hardwicke. Everyone I know who has read this series screams about how good it is, and book two will leave your heart racing.

    14. These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas

Swoon Reads, Via tarunshanker.com, Via goodreads.com

Book Count: 3 (These Vicious Masks, These Ruthless Deeds, These Vengeful Souls)

What It's About: Think Pride and Prejudice but also X-Men. It's the 1880s in England, and Evelyn has two main problems: First, she's found out that she and her sister Rose have special healing powers. Second, said sister has vanished, and not only are others (including the reclusive Sebastian Braddock and dashing Mr. Kent) looking for her, but she may be in graver danger than Evelyn ever feared.

    15. The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

    Sourcebooks, Via goodreads.com

Book Count: 3 (The Bone Witch, The Heart Forger, The Shadowglass)

What It's About: You know that feeling when you accidentally raise your brother from the dead? No? Well Tea does, and her gift for necromancy means she is a bone witch — a fact which leads to her being ostracized from her community. When another bone witch offers guidance, Tea and her brother are whisked away to train in another land. If you love expansive worldbuilding and slow descents into villainy, this is the trilogy for you.

    16. The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

    Random House, Via melissa-grey.com

Book Count: 3 (The Girl at Midnight, The Shadow Hour, The Savage Dawn)

What It's About: Pickpocket Echo lives in a library and survives by selling stolen goods on the black market. The only family she's ever known are the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic in their veins. The Avicen have been in a centuries-long war with the Drakharin, who are descended from dragons, and legend has it that the only thing that can end the conflict is a mythical firebird. I'm quite jealous of everyone who can read this trilogy in its entirety without waiting between books, because I can viscerally remember the agony I felt between books two and three. So buy the whole trilogy in one swoop. You'll thank me.

    17. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

    Jimmy Patterson, Kelli Maniscalco

Book Count: 4 (Stalking Jack the Ripper, Hunting Prince Dracula, Escaping From Houdini, Capturing the Devil)

What It's About: Audrey Rose is the daughter of a lord. And as such she is meant to be a lady, attending social teas and slipping away to her uncle's laboratory to study forensic medicine. Well, that last part is in secret — her father knows nothing about it. After being drawn into the investigation of a serial murderer, and meeting the charming Thomas Cresswell, Audrey's adventures will take her from London to Romania to the RMS Erturia to the Chicago World's Fair. And along the way, figures such as Jack the Ripper, Harry Houdini, and H. H. Holmes will cross her path.

    18. Acting on Impulse by Mia Sosa

    Avon, Via goodreads.com

Book Count: 3 (Acting on Impulse, Pretending He's Mine, Crashing Into Her)

What It's About: Personal trainer Tori Alvarez just wanted to get away. After a very public breakup, her trip to Aruba was supposed to be a man-free zone...but that was before Hollywood heartthrob Carter Stone sat next to her on the plane. After having undergone a dramatic physical transformation for a role, he'll need a trainer to get back to his typical physique. Book two is my favorite in this series (following Carter's sister, Ashley, and his agent Julian, and my favorite trope of fake dating), but all three are absolute treasures.

    Top Shelf Productions, Sandi Villarreal

Book Count: 3 (Book One, Book Two, Book Three)

What It's About: This graphic novel trilogy covers US Congressman John Lewis' journey during the Civil Rights Movement. Spanning from Lewis' life as a young boy, to the Selma-to-Montgomery marches and Bloody Sunday, the March trilogy is filled to the brim with fantastic illustrations and is absolutely essential reading. If you don't believe me about how good it is, Book Three was the first graphic novel to ever win a National Book Award — and it also won the Printz Award, the Sibert Medal, the Coretta Scott King Author Award, and the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction.

Syenite, an orogene star in the Fulcrum, is sent on a business trip with the most powerful living orogene, Alabaster. Essun is on a quest to save her daughter from her husband, who murdered their son, as the world is ending around her.
