5 Things You'll Understand If You're Dating A Mexican

My boyfriend is Mexican, whose parents were born in Mexico, and speak fluent Spanish. Here's what I've experienced while dating him.

1. You'll start learning some Spanish

If you spend enough time with their family, you'll start to pick up some words or phrases in Spanish. I've never taken a Spanish class in my life, but just by listening to it over and over, I've learned a lot, and it's surprisingly easy. Plus, if I'm going to marry him, then it would probably be a good idea to learn now.

2. You're gonna put on a few pounds

Dating a Mexican, means eating a lot of delicious, greasy, fattening Mexican food. His mom makes really good food, like chilaquiles, tacos, and bomb homemade guacamole. These are soooo good, but I always gain at least ten pounds whenever I go to his house.

3. You can't keep track of his family members

My boyfriends' mom has 2 sisters and 4 brothers, and his dad has 3 sisters, having a total of 22 1st cousins! Compared to my family, I only have 7 1st cousins (cute right?). I've been dating my boyfriend for 3 years now, and I still haven't met all of them yet!

4. You'll start getting into futbol

I have never ever been into soccer, in fact, I hated it. But my boyfriend got me into soccer when he made me watch the world cup back in 2014. We would talk about it, and he would explain to me how the game worked. I slowly started to like it, and now FIFA is my favorite Xbox game! Hala Madrid! (which my boyfriend hates by the way).

5. You're late, you're late, for a very important date!

I've learned that being punctual is not exactly my boyfriends' or his family's strongest suit. He's conveyed to me that Mexicans usually don't show up on time for anything, so I should get use to it. I've learned to deal with many times, even for special occasions. Tip: If a dinner reservation is at 7, tell them it's at 6, so that they show up on time;)
