Recently voted Lonely Planet's #9 city in the world, let's celebrate all the quirks and curiosities that make Adelaide the great city it is to grow up in.

2. You know that this is a Stobie Pole.

History Lesson: A Stobie pole is a power line pole made of two steel joists held apart by a slab of concrete in the middle. It was invented by Adelaide Electricity Supply Company design engineer James Cyril Stobie (1895–1953). Stobie used materials easily at hand due to the shortage of suitably long, strong, straight and termite-resistant timber in South Australia. (via Wikipedia)

5. You know that Adelaide is the place to be from late January to mid-March.

Because the Big Day Out and Soundwave are on, as well the Adelaide Festival, Womadelaide, and Fringe Festival, with its accompanying Garden of Unearthly Delights (pictured above).

6. ... And that this is Adelaide for the rest of the year:

Really guys, we should work on spacing this out better. My purse can't handle it!

8. You're far more accustomed to record-breaking heatwaves.

Even if you love the heat, you'll agree that six consecutive days of temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) is too much, right? (see: 2009 heatwave)

9. It wasn't so bad in school, though, because when it got too hot you got to go home early.

An afternoon in your friend's pool because it's too hot to learn anything?! YES PLEASE!

11. If you were really lucky, you got to visit Puzzle Park or Greenhills Adventure Park. This was you in the car on the way there:

... and Puzzle Park's ad tagline 'just off the freeway, at Murray Bridge!' is burned into your brain FOREVER.

12. You tell yourself that the tap water in Adelaide isn't so bad, but after drinking the water interstate, you pull this face as you take your first sip back home:

13. You rode the Jazz Junction Roller Coaster at Dazzleland in the 90's.

14. You've complained at some point that 'no one ever comes to Adelaide' when talking about big pop acts.

In the last 5 years, off the top of my head, we've seen Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin, Hanson, Aqua and 5ive. As well as that, Pink is here like every other week, and Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber and Bruce Springsteen are all set to perform in the next 3 months.

16. As a young adult, you got all dressed up on a Wednesday night for Time Warp/Flashdance at HQ.

This is an accurate depiction of your dancing after a bottle of Passion Pop at pre-drinks and 137 vodka raspberries.
