On August 24, 2017 Apple announced that it had plans to build a 4000,000 square-foot facility in Waukee, Iowa. The new data center will allow Apple to better serve North American users of popular Apple apps like iMessage and Siri.

The facility is expected to create over 550 jobs and will cost $1.3 billion. Apple is also contributing up to $100 million to a fund dedicated to community development around Waukee.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, stated “Apple is responsible for 2 million jobs in all 50 states and we’re proud today’s investment will add to the more than 10,000 jobs we already support across Iowa, providing even more economic opportunity for the community.”

The community of Waukee is looking forward to the jobs an Apple facility will bring to the area. "This new facility will bring with it high-quality jobs and important infrastructure developments for the city. We look forward to a continued partnership with Apple on this effort for decades to come." Mayor Bill Peard of Waukee was quoted as saying.

In 2016, Apple had an operating income of $60.024 billion with $321.686 billion in total assets. [1]
