7 Reasons Why "Kim's Convenience" Should Be Your Favorite New Sitcom

Netflix's sitcom "Kim's Convenience" follows the story of a Korean family living in Toronto.

Appa is such a teddy bear!

The family patriarch, Mr Kim or "Appa" to his family balances the supportive and stern father. Appa is played by Canadian actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who's been connected to Kim's Convenience since its theater days.

And Umma is the light at the end of the tunnel

Umma is always very pleasant and is the voice of reason. Despite the family's troubles, she's always the hinge that keeps them together. The store's dancing queen is played by actress Jean Yoon, who, like Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, has been attached to the role since its theater run.

Janet's is teen angst rolled into a biker-photographer badass

Janet is in the stage where she's the epitome of teen angst. The show starts out with her wanting to borrow Appa's car and by the end of season 2, she's turned in a biker. Haha! She's getting more badass every season. A recurring them for Janet seems to be a search for appreciation, whether it's for her photographs, or in trying to do things for the familyI Perhaps love will find her soon enough... Janet is played Andrea Bang

    Jung is Hngggg

Jung is the handsome bad boy of the family finding his way back on the right path. Like his buddy Kimchee notes, when he's around everybody's just invisible. And believe me, they tried that whole gross Jung in a hoodie thing... Didn't work. Jung is played by Simu Liu, who also plays Faaron in the TV series version of Taken.

    Kimchee is everyone's best bud

It was in one of the early episodes where Kimchee explains his name by saying "because I'm hot". And that's entirely the only thing you need to know about. He's the guy that doesn't take himself seriously enough to get along with anyone, but at the same time always has his friends' backs. Kimchee is played by Andrew Phung.

    Shannon is a doll

Shannon just gets it. She's the boss that's not too strict, and knows she could pull off knee-high boots or whatever you call those horrendous fashion goblins. Everybody has a crush on her, and her present boyfriend (aptly named Alejandro) was born out of prime Toronto real estate and sasquatch blood. Exactly the opposite of Jung's bad boy roots. Nicole Power plays the Shannon in the show.

    Gerald is a cutie

Gerald is the shy-type who just so happens to also take nude pics of himself. It's art, I get it. But beneath this aura is just a really good guy who's there to listen to Janet and give his friends support, and also know when that he's not supposed to use the big towel. Gerald is played by Ben Beauchemin.
