8 Broadway Actors Gracing Our TV Screens This Spring

You’d be surprised to learn that many of them are also Tony nominated actors.

1. Laura Benanti ‘Supergirl’

Fans of TV show “Nashville” must have gotten a hunch to Benanti’s Broadway past. Broadway is where the heart is for Benanti, who has been in eleven Broadway productions to date, with an upcoming gig in She Loves Me with Zachary Levi. Benanti has been nominated four times for the Tony Awards.

2. John Stamos ‘Grandfathered’

Uncle Jesse has come a long way since the “Forever” days. Stamos has only done theatre on Broadway, with roles in five productions. Unfortunately none of the roles earned Stamos a Tony nomination. No worries though because he is still an Emmy nominated actor who has won two Soapy Awards.

3. Ciara Renee ‘DCs Legends of Tomorrow’

Rising star Renee had a two Broadway show run before hitting our screens every Thursday. Still young to the business, Renne has plenty of time to go back to Broadway and earn her a Tony nomination.

4. Carlos Valdes ‘The Flash’

Valdes made his Broadway debut in Once, in which he played the piano, guitar, ukulele, bass and percussion. With musical chops as such, Valdes is bound to go back to Broadway and earn himself a Tony Award someday. Or, how about a Grammy?

5. Donna Lynne Champlin ‘Crazy Ex Girlfriend’

Champlin is a pro at method acting, as featured on "Crazy Ex Girlfriend." She has also been in five Broadway productions to date. Though she was never nominated for a Tony, Champlin won an Obie Award for an off-Broadway performance.

6. Patina Miller ‘Madam Secretary’

Miller was only in two Broadway productions, Pippin and Sister Act, before making her debut on our TV screens. During her short stint, Miller managed to earn herself a Tony Award for “Best Lead Actress in a Musical.”

7. Tony Goldwyn ‘Scandal’

Viewers of “Scandal” must often wonder how Goldwyn is so dang good at being emotional, and it all makes sense now. He must have honed in on his craft playing his two Broadway roles back in the day. He may not have a Tony in hand, but he is Tony by name and he’s stolen the hearts of Team Fitz fans all over the world.

8. Adam Driver ‘Girls’

It’s hard to believe that Driver was once on Broadway, and for two productions. Unfortunately, Driver didn’t receive acclaimed attention for those roles, but he is now a three-time Emmy nominee. So, who’s really crying here? Definitely not Driver!
