Saudi Arabia Rejects Seat On U.N. Security Council: Mixed Signals?

Saudi Arabia on Friday rejected its seat on the U.N. Security Council hours after it was elected to it, in a rare and startling move aimed at protesting the body's failure to resolve the Syrian civil war, but Kingdom's UN website still calls the election "a defining moment."

Saudi Mission website, www.saudimission.org still says:“It is a defining moment in the Kingdom’s history. As one of the first founding members of the United Nations, our election is much to rejoice over. We welcome the positive shift as well as challenges of being part of the Security Council body”, said Saudi Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi.
