Endless’s Marky Mark Art Sells For £6500 At Christie’s Auction Supporting HIV Cause

Artist sends real-life Marky Mark model to the event to add flair to the occasion and draw attention to the artwork

This week, an Endless piece titled, ‘Worship Calvin Classics’ was sold during a Christie's auction for £6500. The auction was hosted by the Terrence Higgins Trust, a British charity that campaigns on and provides services relating to HIV and sexual health. The Terrence Higgins Trust annual auction is renowned as one of the top charity auctions in the London fundraising calendar. Since it began it has raised over £4.2 million to support people living with HIV.

In true style, the artist added a controversial twist to the formal occasion by sending a real-life Marky Mark model to the event on his behalf. The model spent his time at the event engaging with surprised guests and getting snapped by the paparazzi.

Endless’s, Worship Calvin Classics, is a satirical take on Mark Wahlberg's provocative Calvin Klein advert from the 90’s. Originally used by Channel 4 for a national testicular cancer awareness campaign, the artwork grew to reflect on society's addiction to image and vanity, a byproduct of the ever more exploitive advertising methods of the twentieth century. The public's desire to own unaffordable designer goods created the $450bn counterfeit industry, a subject the artist ironically represents in this piece with the fake ‘Calvin Classics’ branding on the boxer shorts waistline. The artist also showcases the model wearing a military helmet as a nod to the original adverts influence in shaping societies perception of the ultimate man.

Talking of the event, Endless sad: “I’m pleased to have been able to play a part in the trusts fundraising efforts, so that they can continue raising awareness on the HIV illness and providing much needed services to patients.”
