Our Society Isn’t Progressing Fast Enough For Women

We’ve made progress, but we still have a long way to go.

If you identify as female, you’ve experienced some form of misogyny. It’s pretty much a fact. I’ve yet to meet a single woman who hasn’t, and I’ve already experienced so much sexism at age 13.

Let me be clear: this post is not a quiz, or a list, or anything else. It’s a plea. I am begging you to help. Help us face the hate and prejudice we face every day. If you are a man, use the power you have wisely. And if you are a woman, know your power.

You might be thinking, “How could a thirteen year old have experienced so much misogyny? How can she even know what she’s talking about?” Well, let me give you a few examples:

For example, on November 8th 2021, my friend was threatened with rape by a tall, athletic male eighth grader. My friend is small and sensitive, and she then spent the next hour crying hysterically on the phone in the bathroom while we tried to help her. I was shaken and frightened and in pain.

A month or so ago, I was catcalled for the very first time by a group of construction workers who laughed and pointed at me, making groping movements in the air. I was so ashamed I ran home and cried.

Finally, I was playing tennis about two months ago in gym class against this boy. I beat him, and then his ‘friend’ said, “Wow, you let a GiRl beat you? What a loser!”

So, in conclusion, this needs to change. I know that there have probably been a million Buzzfeed posts on this subject, but I mean everything I’m saying here with the utmost fervency. Please, PLEASE, if you see misogynistic comments/actions: step up and stop it. Only together can we fix this problem and honor women for everything they are.
