The World's Worst Carnival Game Headed To The NY State Fair

For too many poor New Yorkers, the criminal justice system is a gamble. But trying to get an attorney shouldn't be like playing a rigged carnival game.

It sucks!

If you're poor, no matter how you spin it...

You get screwed!

In every way possible.

But if you are rich...

You can afford justice.

Because with money, you can afford your own lawyer.

Without money, you have to depend on the state's broken public defense system.

Many have tried to get a fair shot at justice in this system.

Many have failed.

Because it's in shambles.

There are too many people in need of a public defender but not enough public defense lawyers.

How are you supposed to get justice for everyone under those conditions?!

Lots of things go wrong. Seriously wrong.

This has happened.

Some have gone to jail for crimes they did not commit.

Some people get over-punished for their crimes.

Some go to jail because no one, not even their lawyers, has the time to listen to their side of the story.

Jackie's husband died and was buried while she lingered in jail waiting for her lawyer -- for months.

For a crime she did not commit.

Someone's attorney went to feed a parking meter and never came back.

Everybody knows that winning at a carnival game is difficult.

But our justice system should not be a carnival game.

Yet, it is. An unjust one.

So, we're suing NY.

In hopes of wrecking NY's broken public defense system.

And resurrecting the constitutional right of ALL New Yorkers to get a fair shot at justice.
