We Created Five Modern Day Outfits Inspired By Selena Quintanilla

These outfits will make your heart go "BIDI BIDI BOM BOM."

Selena Quintanilla's style and beauty influenced an entire generation of Latinos. From her makeup and hair, to her fashion choices (all of which she designed herself), the Queen of Tejano rocked every piece of fabric she wore on stage. We created five contemporary outfits inspired by Selena's iconic looks:

To create these outfits, we enlisted the help of makeup artist Belladelune, and Trunk Club stylist and South Texas native Sofia Maldonado.

The "Amor Prohibido" Look

Outfit details: IRO frill shirt, Trouve Moto leather jacket, Frame denim distressed skinny, 3.1 Phillip Lim "Martini" pumps, BP Double Buckle belt , Argento Vivo silver hoops

Sofia's thoughts: You cant go wrong with a perfect fitting pair of ripped jeans and a leather jacket. The ruffles and lace up design on this IRO shirt took the outfit to the next level. I made sure to pick a shoe simple enough, like a black pump, but with the leather laces to tie the whole outfit together, pun intended.

The "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" Look

Outfit details: Ten Sixty Sherman crop top, STATE skirt, Madewell vest, Vince Camuto laceup tan heels, Michael Kors wrap watch

Sofia's thoughts: I wanted to represent this look almost exactly because it was so simple, but I knew I had to freshen it up and make it wearable. I did this by finding a shorter skirt in the same color. I also picked a fun heel in a nude color that made it flirty. Simple flat gladiator sandals or a wedge would work here too for the summer.

The "Houston Astrodome" Look

The "Busti-CACA" Look

Outfit details: 'Grid lace' high rise crop pants, Storee top, B-Low the belt, Janessa Leone hat, Argento Vivo silver hoops, Michael Kors wrap watch, Kendra Scott cuff, Kate Spade stack bangle

Sofia's thoughts: This look was my favorite, because it was unexpected, but attention grabbing and exciting. It was definitely a show stopper, just like Selena was. She loved hats and embellishments, so I made sure to find pieces that represented that, but were still chic and current.

The "Tejano Queen" Look

Outfit details: Jeffrey Campbell cowboy boots, Frame denim pants, Free People shirt, B-Low the belt, Gentle Monster sunglasses, Nordstrom necklace, Argento Vivo gold hoops, Michael Kors wrap watch, Kendra Scott cuff, Kate Spade stack bangle

Sofia's thoughts: This look was cool, comfortable, and totally seen in today's trends. Selena wore "mom jeans" in this look, which is a trend that is back in style, so I was super excited to feature a pair. I topped this look off with fun shades, a gold choker, and these amazing Jeffrey Campbell boots.
