1. First, "Death By a Thousand Cuts" was inspired by the Netflix movie Someone Great.

2. Also, writer and director Jenn Kaytin Robinson got the inspiration for Someone Great while listening to Taylor's song "Clean" β Jenn listened to 1989 on repeat while dealing with a breakup and moving from NYC to LA.

In an interview with The Guardian, Taylor talked about how country music made an example of the Dixie Chicks, saying, "The number one thing they absolutely drill into you as a country artist, and you can ask any other country artist this, is 'Donβt be like the Dixie Chicks!' I watched country music snuff that candle out. The most amazing group we had, just because they talked about politics."
