There are some MASSIVE spoilers for movies ahead.
1. First, Mila Kunis said Free Willy (1993) is the one movie that never fails to make her cry. She explained that it was the first movie she ever saw in the United States after her family fled the Soviet Union. "I was like, 'Save the whale!' I was heartbroken over this whale," Mila recalled.
2. Keke Palmer said she sobbed "so hard that [she] hugged the TV" after watching Selena (1997) for the first time. In 2016, Keke dressed up as Selena Quintanilla for Halloween and revealed her emotional connection to the icon and the film, saying, "She used her voice to paint her culture all over the world, telling their stories that hadn't been told, and in being so true, she touched many others and inspired so many to be proud of who they were! I AM THE PROOF."
4. Chris Evans said Legends of the Fall (1994) is a film that made him a blubbering mess when he watched it. "I think it's the best. It's one of my favorite movies," Chris said. "If you can make it through the first 30 minutes of that movie without crying, you're not carbon based. You are made of stone."
5. Zendaya revealed that she was "a mess" watching A Wrinkle in Time (2018). She tweeted that she "cried three times" during the film. Nearly a year later, in 2019, Storm Reid, who starred in A Wrinkle in Time, would play Zendaya's sister in Euphoria.
6. Tom Holland said that animated movies often make him cry the hardest and that he was "sobbing on the plane" when he watched Coco (2017) for the first time. Then Zendaya added that Tom also cried while watching Sing (2016).
7. Jennifer Lawrence recently said that Father of the Bride (1991) "always" makes her cry, especially during the scene where George (Steve Martin) imagines Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) as a little girl. Jennifer added, "I'm so sensitive now that I can barely watch anything with children or animals."
8. Denzel Washington "shed a tear" while viewing Black Panther (2018) when it came out. "I ran into Chad [Boseman] and Ryan [Coogler] before the movie started. It was their premiere or the screening in New York, and just talking to them, and then went into the movie," he recalled. "The 40 years I’ve been in this game came back to me. I was like, 'Man, look at these young boys.' Sidney [Poitier] to now."
9. Rachel Zegler revealed that she "cried like a baby" while watching Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) in theaters. While interviewing Andrew Garfield for Variety's Actors on Actors, she told him, "The theatrical experience of seeing Spider-Man: [No Way Home] was one of the greatest I've ever had."
11. Jodie Comer revealed at the 2020 British Academy Film Awards that Billy Elliot (2000) is a movie that makes her cry "every single time." The scene that always gets her is when Billy's dad (Gary Lewis) attempts to cross the picket line so he can pay for Billy (Jamie Bell) to go to London.
12. Director Bong Joon-ho also said that Billy Elliot makes him cry the hardest too. "It's because of the father-son relationship," he explained. "My film Parasite also features that type of relationship. In Billy Elliot, there are a lot of things about the father-son relationship that touches our feelings and emotions."
13. Colin Firth said he hasn't seen it in a long time, but Dumbo (1941) is a film that consistently makes him weep. "I was a mess," Colin said. He recalled seeing it in theaters at one point and looking over and seeing three grown men sobbing too.
14. Director and writer Greta Gerwig revealed that Moonlight (2016) made her cry when she first watched it. In particular, the moment when Teresa (Janelle Monáe) talks to teenage Chiron (Ashton Sanders) while they make a bed. "It's just this moment of...it's so human and so delicate. Every time I think about it...it makes me cry," she said.
15. Jordan Fisher "literally SOBBED" watching Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). After seeing the movie, he tweeted, "Why am I the most emotional person in the world. Literally SOBBED watching Raya. So good."
16. Natalie Portman revealed in 2011 that My Girl (1991) makes her cry "so much." Notably, the scene when Vada (Anna Chlumsky) asks where Thomas J's (Macaulay Culkin) glasses are. "I'm always, like, BAWLING," Natalie added.
17. SZA tweeted that Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) was the "best movie" she's ever seen and she "cried like an infant." She then encouraged everyone to "please go watch it!"
18. Tessa Thompson said the movie that always makes her cry is Harold and Maude (1971). "Mostly when they find each other," Tessa recalled. She also said there are a few scenes when Harold is clearly "desperately in love with her now that he's found his one, and then you know she's made this plan," that get her every time too.
19. Stephen Amell said that Always Be My Maybe (2019) was his favorite movie that year and made him cry three times while he watched it. Stephen added, "Ali Wong and Randall Park made something singular."
20. Javier Bardem once recalled that he "cannot watch Bambi" (1942). He called the movie "unbearable" to sit through because it's so sad. Javier also said that he cries easily, so Bambi just gets him every single time.
21. Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix wept while watching Julianne Moore in Still Alice (2014). She called it an "incredible film" and said she hopes it "creates more awareness and understanding for this tragic disease [Alzheimer's]."
22. Mindy Kaling adored Crazy Rich Asians (2018) and said that she was "bawling" while watching it. She shared the deeply personal reason the film hit her so hard, saying, "No one told me that Crazy Rich Asians would also carry a powerful statement about single moms and their bonds with their daughters. I was bawling. Crazy Ugly Crying from me." Mindy is a single mom of two children.
23. And finally, Melissa McCarthy recalled being caught off guard by the first minutes of Up (2009), and watching Carl (Ed Asner) and Ellie's life together play out "just destroyed [her]." She continued: "Now my husband fasts-forward, and I'm not allowed to watch it because it makes me weep like a lunatic. And to this day, I can't watch it."
