Maya Hawke Found Out Robin On "Stranger Things" Was An LGBTQ Character After Filming Began

    "[In] my wildest dreams all I could want was for [fans] to fall in love with her the way I did."

    Recently, Stranger Things star Maya Hawke swung by BuzzFeed to play with puppies and answer your fan questions.

    And one of the questions Maya answered was about Robin being the first openly LGBTQ character on Stranger Things.

    Maya revealed that she actually didn't know Robin was going to be an LGBTQ character when she auditioned.

    She officially learned about Robin's storyline during filming and it felt very authentic.

    She said, "I love her, it felt true to her, and I'm really glad that we did it."

    In terms of the importance of Robin, Maya was thrilled to portray an LGBTQ character on such a mainstream TV series.

    She continued, saying, "[A] show that people all over the world and all over our country, in red and blue states alike, watch."

    In terms of the fan reaction to Robin's coming out story, Maya actually doesn't use social media much so she hasn't seen the hundreds of tweets about her character.

    But, from what she's been told, Maya knows "people seem to like her."

    She elaborated, saying, "[In] my wildest dreams all I could want was for them to fall in love with her the way I did."

    And of course, Maya said if there's a Season 4 of Stranger Things she would LOVE to see Robin have a girlfriend.
