Here Are 21 "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Facts You'll Want To Know: Part II

    Recently, Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor conducted a Reddit AMA to answer fans' burning questions. Here are some of our favorite facts:

    1. First, Dan Goor actually did the cow noises in the episode "99" when the squad is traveling from LA to NYC.

    2. In the pilot episode, Terry mentions that Scully, Hitchcock, and a cop named Daniels are only good for morning coffee. We still don't know why Daniels never appears again, but the trio are named after writers: Mike Scully, Norm Hiscock, and Greg Daniels.

    Mike Scully wrote for The Simpsons, Norm Hiscock wrote for King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, and of course, Greg Daniels wrote for The Office and Parks and Rec.

    3. Gina was specifically written for Chelsea Peretti after Goor and Mike Schur worked with her on Parks and Recreation.

    Goor says, "Mike [Schur] and I worked with Chelsea at Parks and Rec and after spending about 67 seconds with her, we wanted to make a character for her to play on television. Gina was DEFINITELY written with Chelsea in mind, but she took the character to new heights."

    5. That being said, one of the creators' dream guest stars actually is Bruce Willis.

    6. Before Schur and Goor finished writing the pilot, they met all of the actors and tried to include some aspects of their real-life personalities into their characters — this helped with creating authentic and flawed characters.

    7. In order to keep some authenticity, police advisors are often on set as consultants for the police aspects of the series.

    8. Amy has mentioned that she has seven brothers, and while we haven't met them yet, there are plans to introduce them.

    9. Andy and Goor came up with Jake's "welcome to the murder" line on set while filming the pilot — it's one of Goor's favorite lines in the series so far.

    10. When writing stories, the writers try to do as many different pairings of characters as possible to give the show variety.

    11. Algernon, the name of the mouse that lives in Jake's desk drawer, is named after the short story Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes — in the story, Algernon is a lab mouse who undergoes surgery to increase his intelligence.

    Also, still no word if Flowers for Algernon is included in the 15 books Jake has claimed to have read.

    12. Captain Holt yelling "Hot damn!" was completely improvised by Andre Braugher.

    13. Terry being racially profiled in his own neighborhood was inspired in part by Terry Crews' real-life experiences.

    14. Also, Rosa's coming out storyline was inspired by Stephanie Beatriz's own coming out story IRL.

    15. While there are no immediate plans for an episode, the writers have thought about an episode showing Captain Holt and Kevin renewing their wedding vows.

    16. In terms of writing a season, the first six or so episodes are written during a 10 week pre-production period — the rest are finished while the season is filming.

    17. While Goor can't pick his absolute favorite cold open, some of his favorites are: the tarantula, full bullpen, hot damn, and Pimento in Nikolaj's closet.

    18. In terms of which cast member is most like their character: It's definitley Terry Crews.

    20. As of now, there are no immediate plans to add to the squad after Chelsea Peretti exits the show in Season 6.

    Goor says, "Gina is irreplaceable. One day we may add a character to the squad, but it will never be a replacement for Gina. She = 💯."

    21. And finally, we will eventually find out if Kelly is actually Scully's dog or wife.
