Unfortunately, your business proposal was not warmly received by your audience and your business plan has not been accepted. One of the important aspects of storytelling you want to consider is narrative transportation. Your audience will not only be lost, or absorbed in the narrative you tell, but will also drop their intellectual guard and potentially make them more receptive to accepting your ideas! Additionally, critical components that make up the framework of a story – relatable and likable hero, roadblock encountered, emerges transformed – is important because it not only brings a human element to your narrative, but also allow for effective data storytelling. Remember, data storytelling is all about going from the sophisticated data analysis you have done to data interpretation that is compelling, easy to understand and leads to action! Find a balance between data, visuals and the narrative you create can help you properly address your audience's needs so that you can engage them and enlighten them with your findings!

Your business proposal has been slightly received by your audience, but you still have a little way to go in getting your audience to cross the threshold and embrace your ideas. You want to remember that every dimension of data storytelling – data, your visuals and the narrative you create – is integral in creating a data story that will get your audience on board with your ideas. Remember, even though you have the knowledge and skills, your audience is the hero and is responsible for taking the knowledge you have imparted on them and turn it into action. Again, having knowledge of your audience is important – assessing their needs, who influential stakeholders are, and possible areas of resistance – to incorporate this into your data story in such a way that is compelling and easy to understand!

You not only understand the essential elements of a data story, but you also understand how to make a data story that is compelling, easy to understand and leads to action. You have good attention to context and you understand your relationship as a mentor to your audience. Your skills show that you can properly combat adoption barriers by strategically working to consider the needs and influence of your audience. Your ability to develop data storytelling strategy is strong and will help your audience cross the threshold to implement your ideas!
