21 Genius Wedding Registry Hacks For Future Newlyweds

More perks, less ~stress.~

1. Merge registries from multiple stores at MyRegistry.

If you want to register for only a few items at several stores, MyRegistry can sync those registries. Gifts from Anthropologie, Bloomingdale's, REI, Crate and Barrel, and any other store on the Internet can be added to MyRegistry.

2. You can essentially add anything to an Amazon Wedding Registry, too.

With the Add to Wish List button, you can register for items from any website. You'll also get a thank you list that shows you who bought what. And Amazon will remove items from your registry that you decide to purchase yourself.

3. Use Honeyfund if you'd like guests to contribute to honeymoon-related airfare, lodging, or excursion expenses.

For example, gift givers can choose to contribute to a "snorkeling activity." Honeyfund will then create a printable "gift page" that the gift giver will include with a physical check. Guests can also pay online but there is a fee (WePay and PayPal transactions cost 2.8% + 30 cents). You're essentially receiving a cash gift — and Honeyfund is creating a sleek landing page for those cash gifts.

And the site is flexible: couples can also create a home improvement registry or a down payment fund.

4. Go ahead and register for cash.

(Yes, the Post Institute says it's OK!) Tendr, MyRegistry, and Zola make it easy and offer lots of options, but beware — some will charge you or your guests a fee to send cash this way, so read the fine print.

5. If registries make you feel uncomfortable, consider donating your wedding gifts to charity.

At Heifer International, guests can help end hunger by giving a flock of chicks, goat, honeybees, or a heifer to newlyweds in need.

Select from several charities and create a custom charity registry website with the I Do Foundation.

With Changing the Present, couples can ask guests to fund specific nonprofits in addition to traditional wedding gifts.

7. The MyRegistry and Amazon apps for iPhone and Android include barcode scanners that find the best price for any product.

Bonus tip for guests: You can often call a store to mark something as purchased if you find the item at a better price elsewhere. For example, if a couple registered for a KitchenAid mixer at Target, and you found it at a better price on Amazon, you could call Target or go to Guest Services in-store and mark the item as bought to avoid doubles.

8. Do guests a favor by registering at places that you know offer lots of coupons and sales.

Think: Bed Bath & Beyond and Macy's!

9. Target gives newly registered couples a welcome kit, as well as a "special gift."

Some say it's a $20 gift card.

10. Register with Crate and Barrel and receive two stemless wine glasses in an embroidered linen bag.

Crate and Barrel registrants also get free save-the-dates from Paperless Post and 15% off the paper version.

11. If you register at Bed Bath & Beyond, check out their freebook. If guests buy certain brands from your registry, you'll receive a gift.

Guests can also have the gift wrapped for free in-store.

12. Attend a Bed Bath and Beyond Rock Your Registry event and receive a goodie bag.

13. Include these brands in your Kohl's registry for free gifts.

14. At Bloomingdale's, receive a $100 gift card when you spend $500 or more on items left in your registry.

The registry also includes free monogramming and an engagement gift. Register with certain brands at Bloomingdale's and get gifts, like $50 in Nespresso credit for spending $199 on registered Nespresso items.

15. Retailers with a 20% completion offer:

Dillard's offers a 20% completion discount that starts 60 days after your wedding date and is valid for two months.

16. Retailers with a 15% completion offer:

Macy's couples can take 15% off for six months after the wedding date, plus 10% off furniture, mattresses, and rugs.

Target will send you a 15% coupon for remaining products the week of your wedding date.

Kohl's offers a 15% off coupon for registry items valid up to three months after your wedding.

17. Retailers with a 10% completion offer:

Bed Bath & Beyond will mail a 10% completion coupon after the wedding, and will also host a completion "event," a designated day when you take 20% off without a coupon in-store.

Crate and Barrel offers 10% off of remaining registry products and non-registry items (including furniture) up to six months after the wedding date.

– At JCPenney, couples receive 10% off for six months.

Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and West Elm offer a 10% discount, valid for six months after your wedding.

Bloomingdale's has a 10% completion discount up to six months after the wedding date.

Zola has a 10% completion offer valid for up to one year after your wedding date. (The offer does not apply to cash funds, honeymoon funds, or gifts from third-party sources.)

Amazon has a 10% completion discount, valid up to 30 days after your wedding date.

REI's discount is 10% off of remaining registry items up to one year after your wedding date.

Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and West Elm offer a 10% discount, valid for six months after your wedding. (Fun fact: gift cards are interchangeable at Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and West Elm.)

18. Keep an eye out for sales at Macy's.

Redditor ba-poi discovered that if you return an item currently on sale, you'll receive credit for the item's regular price. You can then use that credit to buy the item again, and redeem the remaining credit (and use your completion discount) to buy items you still want.

19. Returns for Amazon registry items cost $4.99 + $.75/lb for each item, UNLESS... follow these directions. If the items you wish to return are a) duplicates or b) all going back to the same address, talk to customer service and ask them to waive the $4.99 fee for all but one of your return items.

20. Some registry sites will create spreadsheets of who bought what.

Most sites (except Target and Bed Bath & Beyond) will compile a thank you card list, so check for this feature! It will make your life much easier. On Amazon, you can see how to access your thank you list here. Macy's, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Restoration Hardware, and Bloomingdale's all have thank you card managers.

Bed Bath and Beyond only provides information for online purchases. You'll need to find your registry number, call 1-800-Go-Beyond, and request that a spreadsheet of purchases, which will then be e-mailed or mailed to you.

And, lastly, congratu-freaking-lations! Enjoy your wedding (gifts).
