The New York Police Department found an unearthed casket on Wednesday, across the street from a large Brooklyn cemetery.
The officers found the coffin around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning near 144 Pilling Street, across from the Evergreen Cemetery in Bushwick.
"According to cemetery personnel, it looks like it had been buried for 25 years," an NYPD spokesperson told BuzzFeed News.
The NYPD spokesperson said that, although the coffin did not contain a body, officers did find what appeared to be hand and feet bones inside the casket.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon and the investigation was still ongoing, police said.
Evergreen Cemetery did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
