'Avengers 2' Trailer: 22 Things You Might've Missed -- In GIF Form

Marvel released the first 'Avengers 2' trailer unto the world this evening, even though they said just a few days ago that it would premiere during next week's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Who's to blame? Hydra, according to Marvel. Those rascals! Yes, it was pretty mind-blowing. But if you're willing to put your geek-out on hold for the moment, let's take a deep breath and go back over the footage to see what we might've missed.

Posted on

1. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver Sure Are Mad

Marvel

Did you catch our first brief glimpse at "The Twins" amidst Ultron's grandiose speech about "Everyone screaming for mercy"? What could they be protesting? Could it be the Avengers themselves? We know that these guys have a grudge against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Hmmm...

2. Ultron Is Born

Marvel

"I'm gonna show you something beautiful!"

3. The Boys Are Back in Town

Marvel

Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Thor (Chris Hesmworth) survey the destruction of -- presumably -- Ultron.

4. Something Troubling You, Hulk?

Marvel

There's something definitely wrong with Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). This becomes even more apparent when we see him later on in the trailer running shirtless through snow and then Hulking out on....well, I'll get to that.

5. The Worst Party Guest

Marvel

We know from details previously published in Entertainment Weekly that an un-fully formed Ultron makes his first appearance at Avengers Tower (formerly Stark Tower) when all the Avengers (and Don Cheadle's War Machine) are having a little get-together.

Go home, Ultron. You're drunk!

6. An Ultron Prototype?

Marvel

Remember this guy when he was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con?

There's only ONE Ultron!

7. New Locales

Marvel

We don't yet know why the Avengers head to this remote castle in the mountains, but we have seen set photos of the cast and their stunt doubles filming there.

8. Is Banner Losing Control of Hulk?

Marvel

Yeesh, get it togetha, Banner. Someone's definitely struggling to cage the beast within.

9. The Twins Side With Ultron

Marvel

We first saw Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her twin brother Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in the mid-credits scene to 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' Now it looks they've sided with Ultron to take on the Avengers. Remember how I said they have a grudge? We don't yet know what that is, but -- SPOILER ALERT -- it's not good news.

10. Meet Ultron's Children

Marvel

In 'Age of Ultron,' Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark is responsible for creating Ultron (unlike in the comics, which see Hank Pym/Ant-Man creating him). Ultron, then, wants to prove himself a creator and makes an army of these mini-Ultrons.

11. Ready to Bust Some Hulk?

Marvel

In the comics, the only suit Tony Stark has that can go up against Hulk is called "The Hulkbuster." The suit makes a grand entrance in 'Age of Ultron' when Hulk gets a little too "Smash" happy.

12. Yup, Black Widow Is Still Badass

Marvel

...Just in case you forgot.

13. Quicksilver, Instant Replay

Marvel

The Avengers are about to face two forces unlike they've ever witnessed. One is Quicksilver, who has incredible speed.

(Side bar: we saw him and his sister siding with Ultron in the beginning of the trailer, but here he's saving Captain America from one of Ultron's minions.)

14. Who's the Baddest Witch in Town?

Marvel

Step aside, Jessica Lange. There's a new Supreme in town.

In the comics, Quicksilver's sister Scarlet Witch can alter probability and reality to make virtually anything she wants possible. However, in 'Age of Ultron,' director Joss Whedon specifically pointed out spell casting, telekinesis and mind control to be among her talents. I can't wait to see what other tricks she has up her sleeve.

15. Is That Who I Think It Is?

Marvel

Is it a coincidence that the two figures to the right of Cap look like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell)? If they're not, there's definitely some sort of flashback sequence going on.

16. Look! It's Andy Serkis!

Marvel

The master of motion-capture performance Andy Serkis (Gollum in 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings' movies, Caesar in 'Rise' and 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes') said he was working on 'Age of Ultron' as a consultant to help with Hulk's on-screen rendering. But, as you can see, the actor also has a part to play in the movie! Who could he be?

17. Praise the Gods, Thor Is Shirtless Again

Marvel

Calm yourselves. We will indeed be seeing Chris Hemsworth's glorious Asgardian abs once again. Not even Ultron can stop that.

18. Hulk and Black Widow Get Closer

Marvel

Well, it looks like Hulk can control himself around Black Widow. Unlike last time...

19. Thor vs. Iron Man

Marvel

It's cool, Thor. We'd probably do the same if we found out Iron Man inadvertently created the most destructive and sadistic robot in all of the world.

20. The Hulk-Hulkbuster Fight Is Gonna Be Epic!

Marvel

When we first found out Hulk would be facing the Hulkbuster suit in a glorious display of superheroics, I could barely contain my excitement. But this. Looks. Ah-mahzing.

21. Who Broke It?

Marvel

Is Ultron really strong enough to break Captain America's shield, made out of one of the strongest metals in the Marvel universe, in half?

22. Look at That Face!

Marvel

It's a face only a mother could love -- or, in this case, an Iron Man. So glad to hear James Spader's voice come out of this thing.
