6 Songs That Get Me Ready For Church On Sunday

With a prayer for each day.

1. Monday: Oceans - Hillsong United
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

For me, this song is a beautiful prayer that God would lead me to the places I am too afraid to go in the week ahead. That I would trust Him even in the deepest waters. I pray that God would help my unbelief.

2. Tuesday: Total Praise - performed by Richard Smallwood, Vision
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

There is no better song for me when I am feeling weak. Usually by Tuesday I am already feeling weak. I need to stop, to breathe deeply and remember He is my strength. I pray that God would give me the strength to praise Him no matter what.

3. Wednesday: Give Me Jesus - performed by Fernando Ortega
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

The simplicity of this song is its brilliance. I'm tempted to run after so many things. But I truly believe none of it will satisfy me. As he sings, "You can have all this world. Give me Jesus." I pray that God would create in me this simple desire: to love Jesus and to act like Him.

4. Thursday: Be Still My Soul - performed by Kari Jobe
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

Like the sun rising over a dark landscape - I believe some day His presence will illuminate all mysteries for us. In the mean time, I must be still. God guides the future just as He has the past. I pray that God would help still my tumultuous spirit, that I could rest in Him.

5. Friday: In Christ Alone - performed by Keith and Kristyn Getty
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

This song is so wonderfully full of theology and builds to Christ's resurrection. This particular line makes me think of a majestic tree - one that goes higher than I can see but also goes deep under my feet. I pray that God would remind me of Christ's victory - that I would remember that sin's curse has lost its grip on me.

6. Saturday: How Great Thou Art - performed by Carrie Underwood & Vince Gill
Nathan W. Pyle / Via

On Saturdays I try to get away from the city and back to nature somehow. When I see the stars, hear the rolling thunder, it reminds me of Psalm 19: "The heavens declare the glory of God." I pray that God would help me see past all of my distractions. I want to put down my phone and see the earth around me speaking so consistently to God's power and creativity. I am in awe of Him.
