48 Ridiculously Clever Ways To Store Basically Anything And Everything

Solve *so* many of your storage problems.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. Decant pantry staples (rice, dry beans, chips, candy, cookies, etc) into airtight OXO pop containers because they keep things fresh for longer than the original packaging ever possibly could, all while making everything easy to find.

    Amazon, Rebecca O'Connell / BuzzFeed

They're designed to be incredibly efficient with the space on your shelves, the rounded corners make for easy pouring, and you press the button on top to open and seal the containers.

Promising review: "I bought the really big set a while ago and was hooked. No longer will my white rice/grains/rolled oats/grits go wormy ( I know...yuck), my cat's kibble is stored in a clear container so I can see when it's running low. (FYI: the pet food container is not included in this set, but is worth the additional purchase.) I love these containers. They are lightweight so there's no strain on my wrists, yet heavy enough that they don't tip over easily. The lids are easy to clean, and you could apply labels to distinguish between flours and sugars. They are expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for — quality costs extra money. If I need another set in the future, I will buy it." —Judith A Loue

Get the five-piece set on Amazon for $49.95.

    2. Stack skillets and pans on an organizer rack to make it simple to grab the exact one you need without pulling three other pans out along with it.

    Amazon

It also works well for baking sheets, cutting boards, and lids! And because it's made of a super durable steel, it can actually support the weight of cast-iron.

Promising review: "I placed them side-by-side along the back wall of my cabinet, put all the lids in one, and all the fry pans in the other, then the two lids for huge stock pots sit in front of them. All the sauce pans and two stock pots are then on the bottom shelf. This works perfectly! I used to have all my fry pans sitting inside each other. I had to pull them all out to get the "right" one...what a pain!. And all the lids just sat there piled up, and sliding everywhere...no more!" —missability

Get it on Amazon for $8.87.

    3. Transform the inside (or end!) of one of your cabinet doors into an incredibly convenient ~seasoning station~ with these acrylic spice shelves.

    amazon.com

Want to put these up in a rental? Secure them with the completely removable Command Picture-Hanging Strips instead of the included adhesive, like this reviewer (pictured!) did, although they come with all the hardware you need to install the old-fashioned way. You could also mount 'em on your backsplash, on the inside of your pantry door, or even in your bathroom for things like nail polish. They fit spice jars up to to three inches on the bottom.

Promising review: "I was looking for something to hold our shot glasses. These are perfect! They are durable, stable and don't feel cheap. They come with the hardware you need, including wall anchors, to hang them. With these, I don't worry that my shot glasses are going to fall off. I love these! Worth the buy." —Kelley

Get a set of three (with ends on either side, best if you want to install *inside* a cabinet, so the spices don't slide off) on Amazon for $28.99 (also available without ends, as pictured above).

    4. Or display your spices on a pull-down rack so all your go-to blends are always right at your fingertips.

    Amazon, amazon.com

Promising review: "This rack definitely offers enough rise to see the different spices in the cabinet, and when the racks are pulled down your ability to pull things out from behind them is limited only by the length of your arms. You also don't have to worry about knocking spice bottles over when you pull something out from the back since they're all pretty secure in the rack. Obviously nothing can be shoved into the cabinet in front because the racks are screwed in place." —Austin

Get it on Amazon for $18.44.

    5. Tame your plastic container cabinet with the help of a storage drawer: it literally brings everything in the back corner forward, where you can actually reach it.

    polishedhabitat.com

Which will make it easier to keep everything nice and neat! From Polished Habitat.

    Amazon

This is one of those rare products with 4.8 stars — an incredibly high rating. It can fit up to 16 knives, and works even if you have a bunch of mismatched knives you've acquired over the years.

Promising review: "Great product! Purchased two to fit side by side. Each piece holds about 10-11 knives comfortably and the wide slots are great for larger knives. Drawer height for us is three inches and handles fit well with plenty of clearance. We have a broad selection of knife sizes and shapes. Top slots are good for smaller knives like paring or steak, and bottom slots hold everything from bread knives to western chef and Santoku styles." —RF n NC

Get it on Amazon for $19.95.

    7. Extend the life of fruits and veggies with a produce saver that really does keep berries, bell peppers, spinach, lettuce, and more day-one fresh for nearly two weeks.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

I know these work because I've tried 'em, and have been using them almost every week for nearly two years now. On March 5 (2018), I put half of my fresh strawberries in the medium-sized container and left the other half in the clamshell container they came in from the store. Then I checked them 10 days later, on March 15 (again, 2018) — and took these photos! Not that I wouldn't eat the dehydrated one, if that was my only option, but given the choice? I'll take a fresh strawberry every day! They really, truly do work; have saved me SO much money over the past year; and are 100% top-rack dishwasher safe, to boot. You can read my full Rubbermaid Freshworks review for more!

Get a pack of two big lettuce-sized containers and one medium strawberry-sized container from Amazon for $26.99, or individually in five different sizes for $6.61+

    8. And stretch the amount of time you have to use fresh basil, cilantro, parsley, thyme, dill, rosemary, and more with an herb keeper.

    Amazon

You simply add a small amount of water up to the line, then add your herbs!

Promising review: "I was able to place two large bunches of cilantro and one large bunch of fenugreek. The gate made it super easy to place all herbs neatly, as well as super easy to take the required amount of herbs out. The herbs stayed 100% fresh for four weeks, and I only changed the water twice. Super happy with the purchase!" —Chakuli

Get it on Amazon for $11.99+ (available in small or large).

    9. Conceal your sponges, brushes, scrapers, and other miscellaneous dish-washing tools in a tip-out shelf made from those fake drawers right below your sink.

    Home Depot

Plus they let you take advantage of all the extra storage space hiding behind those fake drawers! The trays themselves are designed to install with screws (which would be the most permanent and durable way to go about it), but some reviewers have had success with Command Strips. Either way, you can easily pull them out to wipe down in the sink if they get gross. My parents have had these in their house for over three years at this point, and they're still just as functional and useful as they were on day one.

Promising review: "This is a great use for wasted space in the front of your sink. It gives you an added space for sponges and even a safe place to keep jewelry while washing dishes. The pull down feature is very easy to use. It would also be a great place to hide valuables. Very unsuspecting." —Katie Gick

Get it on Amazon: the 11-inch tray for $10, the 14-inch tray for $12.71, and the soft-close hinges you'll need for full functionality for $13.19.

    10. Or simply organize them with a corner tray that lets excess water drain away, instead of puddling up on your kitchen counter.

    Amazon

Promising review: "This caddy saves space at the sink by hanging over a back corner of the sink area. It keeps water from sitting near the hand and dish soap since it drips into the little easy-to-clean tray instead, which tilts towards the sink. The suction cups work great to keep it in place. It is the perfect size. Still holding strong several months later. Excellent product." —C.J. Moses

Get it on Amazon for $10.99 (available in two colors).

    11. Maximize the vertical space in your dishes cabinet with an expanding shelf — you'll no longer have to pull down the stack of salad bowls just to get to the dinner plates.

    Amazon

It expands from about 13 inches to just under 23 inches long. But of course, measure twice, order once!

Promising reviews: "Have only had it two days so not sure about durability yet but it seems a lot sturdier than the white coated ones. Spread out nicely in my cupboard, though not completely to both sides." —CamilleK

"Just love these storage dividers. Totally transformed my cabinets — used for dishes and serving platters. Sturdy; make sure to measure for fit before purchasing. Highly recommend." —Emmarose

Promising review: "Great product. Very well priced. Very large too. In one large bag I can put four king-size plush blankets, three plush dressing gowns and several other winter items. And I still have more room to spare if I wanted. I've tried several bags out of the package and nothing has leaked. Seem well made. Vacuum works great, and so does the hand pump (although takes a bit of time hand pumping air out of the huge bags)." —microcameraguy

    Amazon

Promising review: "We moved into a new house, and I needed a place for my hair dryer and curling iron that still left me enough storage for other items. This worked perfectly. My hair dryer is a ceramic one and very heavy, and I was worried at first about the width of the holder, but it was wide and sturdy enough to hold it. It really cleared up space under my sink." —M. Walker

Get it on Amazon for $13.99 (available in seven metallic finishes).

    18. Grab another carabiner to lasso your hair ties so you can always find one when you need it, and repurpose a paperclip holder as a new home for all your bobby pins.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

I recommend this all the time because it's how I've been storing my hair ties for over two years now — and still (*still*!!) have almost all of the original package, which is SUCH a rarity. Get one on Amazon for $25.99 (available in two colors).

Promising review: "It is very sturdy and very easy to assemble, it took me no more than three minutes. Living in New England we can go through all four seasons in one week — even sometimes in one day! — so I am constantly changing shoes. It holds most of my all seasons, everyday shoes. I did find that it is not very heel/stiletto friendly (except for wedges) so I don't recommend purchasing to store only heels. But if you sit the flat shoes on top of each other instead of side by side you can add up four or five more pairs of flats or flip flops. Overall its a great product." —BluMethal

Promising review: "These hangers are sturdy and well-built. I have four bikes hanging from them in my garage now. Substitute better quality screws and drill pilot holes. I have them 16 inches apart, and then hang the bikes alternating handlebars up and handlebars down. This is a little tight, but definitely navigable. All in all, these hangers are sturdy and I love how they create more floor space in my garage!" —Two Wheels
