7 Easy Cleaning Tips You’ll Actually Want To Try

Small things you can do when there’s no time to ~deep clean~.

1. Pull all the hair out of your brushes, then clean your brushes with warm water and baking soda.

Here’s the tutorial.

2. Dust the top of your furniture and cabinets, then put down a layer of wax paper to catch dust in the future.

Then you can swap out the paper when it’s dirty. This is especially helpful on top of kitchen cabinets, where that sticky, greasy, hard-to-clean dust can settle. From here.

3. Steam-clean your microwave with lemon juice, water, and a sponge.

First microwave the lemon juice and water, then wipe with a sponge. (You could also substitute white vinegar for the lemon juice). Watch the full video here.

4. Sprinkle baking soda on your couch (or fabric chairs), let sit for about half an hour, then vacuum it all up.

This helps get rid of any lingering stinky smells (although this only works on fabric or microfiber couches). If you want to take it a step further, here’s how to make your couch look good as new.

5. Run white vinegar through your coffee maker or Keurig to descale and clean it.

Sure it’ll smell funny for a little bit, but after you run water through it a couple times the smell will go away — and your coffee will taste better! Get the tutorial for cleaning a coffee pot here, and the tutorial for cleaning a Keurig machine here.

6. Switch out your sponge for a new one, then use an oversized binder clip to let it air dry every time you’re done using it.

If your sponge is already smelly, it’s wayyyy past time to replace it. And every time you use it, you should make sure you rinse any food out with hot water, squeeze out all of the excess water, then let it dry. From here.

7. If it’s been three months or more since you replaced your contact lens case, swap it out for a new one.

That’s according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. You can get these cute owl contact cases for $4.95 here.
