Friday 18 June 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Metro Theatre

Get ready to party with Alex The Astronaut, BVT, Hope D, NIK NAVY and the No Frills Twins as they take the stage at the Metro to celebrate its post-COVID reopening.

One of the big events happening as part of Mardi Gras Pride Weekender, Express Yourself – Queer Discovery is a series of music performances designed to foster and provide a platform for emerging LGBTQI+ artists. A joint initiative between Mardi Gras and APRA AMCOS, this series will see a panel of judges select two emerging artists to perform at a future Mardi Gras event.

Foodies, get excited: Some of the biggest queer chefs in the country are coming together to put on one of the tastiest events of Sydney Solstice. Featuring dishes by Aussie legends Anna Polyivou, Claire Van Vuuren of Bloodwood, George Woodyard of Bart Jnr and MasterChef's Sarah Tiong, devour four show-stopping courses while enjoying booze from the legendary winemaker Lisa McGuigan.

With two different sittings, Awakening (1 p.m. - 4 p.m.) or Nightshade (7 p.m. - 10 p.m.), dress to impress in a twisted dark fancy number and celebrate all things creative and delicious.

Curated by Anthony Carthew and hosted by Amelia Airhead, My Drag Story continues with a brand new line up of drag legends and up-and-coming royalty including Bee Dazzled Shanks Prince of Redfern, Dizzy Bility, Doreen Manganini, Minnie Cooper and Miss 3D.

An immersive adventure of queer magic created to celebrate the end of the Sydney Solstice festival, Star Gayzing is a one night only event hosted by Queer Sydney. Featuring RuPaul's Drag Race star Etcetera Etcetera, Amyl Clooney, Clara Fable, Fox Pflueger, Marlena Dali, Madame Magique, Peach Fuzz and Schisandra, look forward to a variety of incredible dance and burlesque performances, having your cards read, as well as comedy, drag and live music. 7. Laugh your ass off at A Comedy Brew at Stonewall.

Gear up for a night of laughs with some of the funniest people in queer comedy. Hosted by the legendary Rosie Piper, catch comedians Jake Howie, Bea Barbeau-Scurla and John Glover at the Oxtravaganza Lounge at Hello Darlings Theatre on the top floor of the iconic Stonewall Hotel.

Presented by the House of Mince, this queer variety show is centred on showcasing the calibre of talent living and working in Sydney. With two sittings each Friday night at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., watch the likes of Betty Grumble, Liam Gale Band, King Cxntessa, Justin Shoulder, Stelly G, Sharman, Craig Slist and Basjia take the stage.

Sunday 13 June at 5 p.m. at Abstract Thoughts Gallery (next to Café Freda's)

Featuring some of Sydney's best queer writers and comedians, enjoy a night of readings as performers regale you with stories of their iciest queer passions. Think Elsa from Frozen getting down with the White Witch from Narnia!

The event will also feature visual art from some of Sydney’s leading queer artists, as well as a chill-wave DJ to help set the vibes.

10. Enjoy the beats of the next generation of queer Aussie DJs at Spin-Off 2021.

Spin-Off, a competition in search of Australia's next generation of LGBTQI+ DJs, is being reignited for the Sydney Solstice and Mardi Gras Pride Weekender.

With K.I.M from The Presets headlining the event, this dance party will be judged by Australian DJ royalty, including Kate Monroe, Feisty, Seymour Butz and Charlie Villas. Winners will have the chance to perform at a future Mardi Gras event.

11. Get dressed up for a burlesque Dinner and Show in the Bamboozle Room.

An old fashioned dinner and a show? Yes please. Presented by the Bamboozle Room, this vaudevillian adventure features an unexpected mix of burlesque, comedy, cabaret and circus performances. Alongside a two-course meal, get ready for a night of glamour and debauchery.

Bring your solidarity and your curiosity to this free forum discussing how to ensure all members of the LGBTQI+ community are free to work, study and live with dignity. Presented by Mardi Gras and Equality Australia, this forum will feature LGBTQI+ people of faith, religious leaders and activists including Karen Pack, a teacher who was sacked by a Sydney Christian college for being gay; Ghassan Kassiseh, Equality Australia's Legal Director; Nur Warsame, Australia's first gay imam; Jo Inkpin, Australia's first transgender priest and Dr Kerryn Phelps.

13. And finally, attend the CREATION solstice performance by artist Deborah Kelly at the MCA.

As the sun sets on the night of the winter solstice, this engaging and interactive performance will get you thinking and moving. Developed by artist Deborah Kelly with audiences at the Museum of Contemporary Art, CREATION is a joyous collective ritual that centres around a queer, science fiction, climate change religion. Be sure to wear white and get involved with the actual performance!

While you're there, check out Kelly's work in the CREATION exhibition at the MCA, which she developed in collaboration with a host of other artists, musicians, poets and friends.
