Every year, TNT runs a 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story because it's apparently the only movie that matters during the holidays.
If you're not familiar with the story — which I don't know how you couldn't be by now — it's the tale of a little boy, Ralphie, who only wants one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.
The air rifle is all Ralphie can talk about and think about, but every time he brings it up, people say he can't get one because "you'll shoot your eye out."
His "old man" also hates dogs and wins a racy lamp in the shape of a woman's leg and mispronounces "FRAGILE" because he's dumb. Just like the movie.
YEAH I SAID IT! A Christmas Story is the most overrated film in the history of cinema.
The only reason it's so quotable and considered "a classic" is because it's on TV for 24 straight hours and everyone feels obligated to watch it out of fear of missing out. "What? You haven't seen A Christmas Story?! It's the best!"
No it is not. It's actually pretty dumb and not THAT funny. Now, don't get me wrong, the movie has its moments, but overall it's not even close to the best Christmas movie.
Don't believe me? You don't have to. Tons of people agree:
