"SNL" Highlighted The Differences Between Black And White Americans, And This Is So Important

"Let's just say we've seen this movie before."

Last night, Saturday Night Live poked fun at the different ways Black and white Americans can view justice.

Four anchors, played by Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon, and Alex Moffat, sit around a table

The cold open started with two Black Minnesota "news anchors" and two white ones. They began the segment by discussing the trial of Derek Chauvin, who has been charged with the killing of George Floyd.

White anchor says "The video footage alone should tell you everything you need to know about what happened" and Black anchors say "No doubt about it" and "100%"

They all agreed that OF COURSE, everyone wants "justice to be served."

White anchor says "Hopefully, justice will be served" and Black anchors say "God willing" and "That'd be nice"

But they totally disagreed about the likelihood of Chauvin being convicted.

White anchor says "Sounds like we all agree there's no way Derek Chauvin walks away from this" and the Black anchors say "Hang on a second" and "Well..."

The Black reporters pointed out that police ALWAYS get off during trials like these.

Black anchors say they've seen this movie before, white anchor says skepticism of the legal process is valid and historically, police have gotten away in other cases like this, and Black anchors say "She means every single time" and "Historically?"

The white anchors insisted there's been a lot of progress since the Black Lives Matter protests, which...they might really believe? Who knows.

White anchor asks "You guys can at least admit this country has made a lot of progress recently, yeah?" and Black anchors say "When?" and "For who?"

Then "Craig" decided that his thoughts deserved to be heard.

White anchor advises other white anchor, Craig, not to go there; the Black anchors encourage him to "go there," and Craig says he wants to choose his words carefully and prepares to quote Thomas Jefferson

Since they couldn't agree, they asked the meteorologist to settle the debate.

Black meteorologist says it's obviously an open-and-shut case, the white anchors agree, and the Black meteorologist says "That being said, he's a white cop in Minnesota, so I'mma guess probation"
