When You And Your Partner Both Experience Mental Illness, How Do You Cope?

How do you keep your household afloat when nobody is feeling stable?

My husband and I both fall into the group of 2.2 million adult Americans who have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder.

Sometimes life is a dream. Other times, someone is falling apart, and the other has to carry the weight of the household.

Occasionally, the stress of a mentally ill partner can trigger a depressive episode for which ever one of us is currently playing the role of "rock."

We do our best to look out for ourselves, and not let our emotions swirl into a single hurricane, but sometimes we can't help but support each other. That's kind of marriage in a nutshell.

So what's your best tip? If you and your partner both struggle with mental illnesses, what gets you through with a united front? How have you managed to get the bills paid, the kids fed, and keep the paperwork from piling up when no one is holding it together?
