Stinky Aguilera, aged 17 years, passed away Friday evening with his devoted mother, Christina Aguilera, sitting vigil.

Stinky, a Papillon spaniel, was given to the star as a gift from then-boyfriend/backup dancer Jorge Santos. The pup's life has spanned Aguilera's career.

The pop diva posted the news on Instagram and Twitter, writing:

"I had to finally make the hard decision to put my beloved Stinky ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’” down last night after an amazing 17 years together!
