Quinta Brunson Said America Is "Not Okay" After Fans Requested She Write An "Abbott Elementary" School Shooting Episode, And I Agree

"This country is rotting our brains."

Warning: This post includes discussions of mass shootings.

In light of the horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that left at least 19 children and two adults dead, people across the US have been voicing their frustration and sadness about the lack of gun control in this country.

That includes Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson, who took to Twitter earlier this week to express her feelings about the senseless mass murders that continue to happen far too often.

Quinta questioned if our government just planned on visiting this school and the next shooting site instead of putting preventative laws in place.

are they just going to go visit this school, too? and the next shooting site? aren't they embarrassed of doing nothing preventative at all?

She went on to talk about the way the conversation always shifts in the aftermath of a tragic shooting.

every time this happens I watch the conversation move toward the why. Mental health, race, class, domestic dispute etc. I kind of can’t stand that because all it does is protect the only constant in each case: a gun.

In 2022 alone, there have been 27 school shootings and over 200 mass shootings.

The West Philadelphia native revealed that she and her family have been "affected by gun violence," which is one of the reasons she feels so passionately about it. While she admitted to being sick to her stomach over America's "love affair" with guns, she's still fighting for change.

If you vote, demand more from the people you elected to change laws. And everyone should consider supporting local gun violence prevention groups. They work and help keep people alive.

Quinta emphasized that our elected officials have the real power to enact stricter gun laws, so when fans started reaching out to her to incorporate a school shooting episode on Abbott Elementary, she was not only shocked, but offended.

wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write. people are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding "entertainment." I can't ask "are yall ok" anymore because the answer is "no."

She begged people to use that same energy with their local and national politicians. Quinta also urged them to really evaluate what they were asking of her, all for the sake of "entertainment."

I don't want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the flaw in asking for something like this. we're not okay. this country is rotting our brains. im sad about it.

Quinta shared "one of many" DMs she's received for episode ideas...all revolving around a school shooting.
