35 Popular Movies That People Really Regret Watching

The BuzzFeed Community critics have spoken!

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about popular movies they thought were overrated. With nearly 500 submissions, let's just say they didn't hold back.

Part One was a big hit, so we decided to bring you Part Two:

    1. Toy Story movies (1995–2019)

    Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

"Toy Story, all of them. They're so incredibly dull. The songs are terrible, and the premise is just so lame. I hate it so much and don't understand the love for it."

    NedG1337

    2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

    Sony Pictures

"I loved the soundtrack and was so excited to see the movie given that it had won an Oscar, but I was extremely unhappy. The movie was so hard to follow, especially since the same thing was happening in different places all the time. I was trying so hard to follow the story, but I wasn't really able to enjoy it."

    niraatwal

    3. Forrest Gump (1994)

    Paramount Pictures

"I didn't like it at all. It was neither a comedy nor a drama. It was like a satire without being a satire. I thought that it was a joke. I hated the acting — the movie has no plot. It was just all over the place."

    pruebelle

    4. Twilight (2008)

    Summit Entertainment

"The books are great, but the movies make me cringe."

    kathrine_spoerring_oestberg

    5. Black Panther (2018)

    Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

"There's nothing special about it other than an inclusive cast. The acting was cringey, and the plot and pacing were terrible. There were no real stakes, and it felt empty. However, the soundtrack and visuals are incredible. This movie is extremely overrated."

    brunchman2000

    6. The English Patient (1996)

    Miramax Films

"I was Elaine from Seinfeld while watching it! I was 19 when I first watched it. I tried again 10 years later because I thought maybe I hadn’t been mature enough the first time around — but nope, still boring AF!"

    christyp45d5d0958

    7. Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"It was beautiful, but the movie totally lacked charm, humor, and chemistry. I wanted to like it so badly."

    tgsoulliere

    8. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

    Paramount Pictures

"I love the actors, but the plot was atrocious and sexist. Nothing about that movie was amusing or awesome to me. To this day, I hear people say how great that movie was, and it is always men. It is awful."

    babybean75

    9. The Little Mermaid (1989)

    Buena Vista Pictures

"Now, I’m going to give this movie credit for its amazing songs, its incredible animation, and for bringing Disney back from its low point. However, aside from that, I don’t see why the movie is hyped so much. Ariel feels very childish and careless, acting as if she knows better than everyone else, desperately desiring to become a human just to meet a man she doesn’t know anything about, and disobeying her father’s order to stay away from Ursula. However, she gets her way in the end, becoming a human to marry a stranger and abandoning all of her friends and family in the process. Oh, and there’s a plot hole, since Ariel is shown being able to read the contract and write her name — why couldn’t she just do that to communicate with Eric?"

    10. Gone With the Wind (1939)

    Loews Inc.

"Scarlett O'Hara is the whiniest, most obnoxious character I've ever seen. It made the movie unbearable for me."

    snabbit

    11. Mean Girls (2004)

    Paramount Pictures

"I don’t get the obsession with Mean Girls. It’s so overrated. When I watched it, I was bored out of my mind and eventually left the room."

    maryelizzy

    12. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

    Paramount Pictures

"Sorry, but it's awful, awful, awful! Holly is shallow, self-absorbed, and immature. Also, the portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi...yeeesh, super problematic."

    EleyTheGreat

    13. The Matrix (1999)

    Warner Bros.

"The plot was good, but it just went on for soooo long, like they were dragging it out to make it longer. I was fully asleep by the end of the movie."

    sophiastc

    14. Aquaman (2018)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"Aquaman was so dumb and derivative, it was unbelievable. All my fellow comic book geeks loved it and I just don't get it. The romance bits especially were painfully stupid and juvenile."

    gracelessone

    15. The Notebook (2004)

    New Line Cinema

"Everyone talks about how romantic it is, but really it’s just a movie about a dysfunctional couple. Noah manipulates Allie. Allie cheats on her fiancé with Noah. That and the constant breaks back to the present make it so awkwardly portrayed."

    emilytheit

    16. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

    Fox Searchlight Pictures

"Phenomenal acting, but the story was way too much and couldn't decide what it wanted to be. I walked out of the theater thinking it was going to be destroyed by critics since it was such a hot mess, but then it was nominated for about a billion Oscars."

    ciarafaithr2

    17. Bridesmaids (2011)

    Universal Pictures

"I laughed at absolutely no jokes during the movie. All the characters are horrible people, so you can't sympathize with anyone, and most of the scenes are just straight-up grotesque."

    maryloudc

    18. Inside Out (2015)

    Pixar

"I just wanted to push Sadness off that cliff the whole damn time because she’s so annoying! Stop touching the balls, Sadness!"

    eisuneek

    19. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"I never felt engaged or represented by any of the characters in the Harry Potter movie franchise. Plus, Daniel Radcliffe is such a bad Harry."

    flors4579b2be7

    20. Titantic (1997)

    Paramount Pictures

"God, Titanic was awful! I remember all the hype about it when it was released. I refused to watch it for years and when I finally did, I really didn’t get what all the fuss was about. Despite being British, I have a real problem with Kate Winslet's character. She came across especially smug throughout the movie."

    LeopardHat

    21. Mamma Mia! (2008)

    Universal Pictures

"I'm usually a very easygoing, live-and-let-live, everything-is-subjective person. But this trash heap not only made me angry at how terrible it is, but also at how anyone else could enjoy it! I'm sorry, you guys. I just don't get it."

    bethramseya

    22. The Kissing Booth (2018)

    Netflix

"So many bad clichés: forbidden romance with her best friend’s brother, not to mention her ‘slutty glow-up,’ and the fact that the guy was telling everyone to stay away from her, which, just, no. The plot was boring and uncreative, and the characters lacked, well, character such that I couldn’t relate to them. It felt like a desperate attempt to tap into teen rom-coms, despite being neither romantic nor funny."

    l3monade

    23. Eighth Grade (2018)

    A24

"It made me cringe from beginning to end. It’s wayyyyy too exaggerated."

    valeriel44d963a87

    24. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

    Miramax Films

"It's such a terrible movie in my opinion. The cast is great and the story could have been great, but Bridget is so annoying. She is reckless, petty, and selfish. The men in the film are losers; Hugh Grant's character is entitled and Colin Firth's character is whiny. I don't understand why people like this movie."

    novemberrose14

    25. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

    Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

"Everyone said how good it was, but I sat through the whole thing hoping it would end. When it finally did, I was so disappointed that I didn't even bother to watch the sequel. And don’t even get me started on how irritating and irresponsible Peter Quill is."

    hannahbb99

    26. Interstellar (2014)

    Paramount Pictures

"It got good reviews and everyone seems to love it, but I just thought it was boring. People give it way too much credit for being a straight-up mess."

    katiep4b7b4b3ff

    27. Gravity (2013)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"We heard such great things about it, but my husband and I couldn’t help but laugh during the entire film because it was so cheesy."

    christyw4f21943e7

    28. Maleficent (2014)

    Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

"They had the opportunity to make a great villain movie and it just felt like another Disney princess movie. They simply made the greatest Disney villain a boring hero."

    pamelam468072374

    29. The Hurt Locker (2008)

    Voltage Pictures

"Dear lord, I honestly don’t understand what was so great about it. I’ve seen plenty of war movies that deserve all the accolades, but I only saw this Oscar winner as a dud."

    alexk47880231d

    30. Good Will Hunting (1997)

    Miramax Films

"It’s been raved about for YEARS for being an amazing, heartfelt classic. For me, it ended up just being a waste of my time. Don’t get me wrong: I adore Matt Damon and Robin Williams, but I just don’t get the hype around this movie at all. It honestly sucked."

    carterb4dc282be3

    31. Pitch Perfect (2012)

    Universal Pictures

"I was embarrassed for every person in the film. Why was Anna Kendrick made out to be this alternative, cool chick? It would’ve been 1000% better if they'd had her play a character similar to Janis Ian from Mean Girls, Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, or Daria."

    bridgetkellyb

    32. To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018)

    Overbrook Entertainment

"It was just like any other teen movie. Nothing about it really made it stand out besides Lana Condor as the lead. It got way too much praise and Noah Centineo isn’t even that great in it."

    jonjon34

    33. Frozen (2013)

    Walt Disney Pictures

"I’m so grateful for the classics that came out for my generation because Frozen was NOT what it was hyped up to be."

    nkc224

    34. The Revenant (2015)

    20th Century Fox

"So many people recommended I watch it, but I found that there was no real storyline apart from this guy trying to survive. Sure, there were some mildly interesting parts, but they were totally outweighed by the rest of the movie."

    emilybannister01

    35. Trolls (2016)

    20th Century Fox

"Oh god! I know it’s based on the toys, but the movie is nothing like them. The characters are so poorly written and stereotypical, and the jokes are too. It’s like a bad acid trip for 6-year-olds and anyone else who wants to join in."
