When a German reporter asked Mariah Carey what she thought of Jennifer Lopez, I don't even think she knew her response would blow up like this.
And it's safe to say the clip has aged well, because it's been a staple in meme-culture for quite some time. Hell, I've even used it in a few group chats.
But even though many believed the iconic singer was being petty, Mariah opened up to Pitchfork to reveal her real feelings behind the infamous quote.
"I really was trying to say something nice or say nothing at all. I really was."
Mariah also spoke out about this quote during a 2015 interview with The Cut, stating that it was completely blown out of proportion.
Well, there was a very interesting shirt that a fan made with a quote that I said years ago that, when I said it, I really wasn’t trying to be funny. I was just being honest and everybody’s kind of blowing it out of proportion but this guy had a shirt on and it was a picture of me that he made and the quote was underneath it — and I’m going to leave you hanging as to what it was.
Okay, this has me thinking. What if at that time, Mariah really DIDN'T know her. Like, she wasn't saying she'd never heard of her. What if she was simply stating she didn't know JLo personally???
