Florence Pugh Said She "Purposefully Chose" To Cut Her Hair Short To Separate Vanity From Her Talent

"I purposefully chose to look like that."

More than two months after debuting a stylish buzz cut at this year's Met Gala, Florence Pugh is opening up about the decision behind her drastic hair change.

During a recent interview with Radio Times (per People), Florence revealed her bold haircut was a way for her to take a step back from Hollywood's obsession with glamour.

“I purposefully chose to look like that. I wanted vanity out of the picture,” Florence said.

“Hollywood is very glamorous — especially for women — and it's hard for an audience to see past that," Florence added. “Whenever I've not needed to be glam or have a full face of makeup, I fight to keep it that way. It helps the audience."

The Oppenheimer star said that even early in her career, she didn't have any real say over her public image. She had to "fight" to control it.

“It helps me when I'm wearing less makeup because then I'm less of a sparkly thing on screen. I feel like I'm allowed to do ugly faces, like it's more acceptable.”

Love that she's doing things on her terms. To learn more about Florence, be sure to check out her full interview.
