6 Harsh Realities About Modern Dating

If you're single, then you're well aware that modern dating is pretty rough.

Dating apps and dating in general has worked for many people, but for the rest of us still lingering in Single Land, these are just some of the harsh realities we face:

1. Dating apps are the worst.

Matches don’t message first. Conversations don’t last. Catfishes everywhere. It’s just so annoying.

2. Texting for a while before meeting someone makes things uncomfortable and awkward when you finally meet.

Life hack: If you want to avoid disappointment, don't text somebody for weeks before meeting them/to the point of building up an unreal idea of what this person is going to be like.

3. Social media has damaged our perception of what a relationship truly is or should be.

#RELATIONSHIPGOALS are 9 times out of 10 NOT real relationship goals. Oh, and "Facebook official" shouldn’t indicate whether or not you’re in a serious relationship.

4. Dating has become a game of hard-to-get.

Who’s going to text first? How long should you wait to respond to the last text? Why do people have to chase one another? I AM NOT A CAT NOR AM I A MOUSE.

5. Meeting new people is difficult when you’re shy/when work/school consumes your life/when you don’t enjoy bars/going out.

6. Everybody wants to hook up and nobody wants to commit.

It’s so much easier to just hook up with whoever whenever as opposed to actually committing and investing your time and energy into someone. However, this won’t work forever unless you want to be alone forever. We should never settle, but we must be willing to put in the work when it comes to someone we want to date, otherwise we’ll always be #foreveralone.
