How Much Do You Know About M&Ms?

M&Ms are little drops of heaven. But how much do you really know about M&Ms?

    RE: BUZZFEED FOOD APPLICATION

Let's all agree: M&Ms are little drops of heaven.

The chocolatey, sweet candy treat comes in so many varieties that it's hard to keep track. There's M&M crisps, M&M peanut, M&M pretzel... you get the point.

But how much do you really know about M&Ms?

M&Ms were created by Forrest Mars Sr. during World War II and eventually named after Mars and Bruce Murrie (the son of a Hershey executive). M&M's are part of the Mars, Inc. family along with Snickers, Twix, and 3 Musketeers.

The first M&Ms were sold in 1941 and were produced in Newark, New Jersey. Mars sought to make a candy that wouldn't melt.

Blue was not part of the original 5 colors included in a pack of M&M's. And the signature 'M' wasn't stamped onto the candy until 1950.

Red M&M’s disappeared from 1976-1986 because a Russian study linked red food dye to cancer in humans.

Blue M&M's joined the ranks in 1995.

Now, M&M's has flavors such as coconut, candy corn, pumpkin spice, white chocolate, mint, raspberry, and carrot cake. Some more seasonal than others.

It's latest flavor: Coffee Nut. Adding a little caffeine to your afternoon sugar fix. The flavor won in a nation-wide contest and was up against Chili Nut and Honey nut.

Did you know that M&M's have been a part of every space shuttle mission since Columbia 1981? The candies are even on the International Space Station (ISS) menu.

There're also boxes of M&M's around the White House with the Presidential seal.

The brand has also been a part of the Olympics, the Super Bowl, and the Grammy's.

M&Ms are Mars’ biggest chocolate brand. M&M's make up more than $1 billion in annual sales for a company that rakes in $33 billion annually.

We can all agree, you can never only have just one M&M.
