An Open Letter To Rose McGowan

Black Women Are The Black N-Words Of The World. - Unknown

    Hey Rose,

Rose McGowan really said replace woman with the n word looool as if black women don't exist

It's me! A Black woman! I'm a Me Too-er, and I too have tweeted regrettable things in a PTSD enduced rage. Most notably, after that back to back sexual assault scene in Orange is the New Black. I was pissed.

However, I do want to remind you of something: "Nigger" is a false equivalency for the word "Woman" for a variety of reasons.

Put down the J, and imagine a bright and shiny future. Your future.

This is you. Rose "Fuck Rape Culture" McGowan.

And guess what, girl? Your movie is getting a lot of buzz.

You are excited and proud of the work that you've done.

But Uh Oh! We've got a hickup.

    How would you react?

Congratulations, you are actually Gabrielle "Fuck Rape Culture" Union

To be clear: I'm not defending "Birth of a Nation"

My point is this: Intersectionality often means that you are forgotten. Don't forget us.

I was with Rose McGowan until she said the N word comment... that’s what white women do, throw black ppl under the… https://t.co/0BDPkHQeHO

By claiming that the N-Word and Woman are the same, you erase black women's experiences and call us lesser in one breath. There are women of color who have been through what you have been through. Statements like that denigrate us, and makes those of us who support you look stupid. Don't make me look stupid, Rose.

Now, honestly ask yourself this question. No BS or excuses.

Of course they do,it's just a woman. ‘The Birth of a Nation’ Audiences Give Nate Parker a Chance https://t.co/2Zhx6SiZ6x via @indiewire

When you were raging against Birth of a Nation, were you being intersectional? How about on your quest yesterday?

    Do better, be better.

Note to self: do not smoke a J late at night and make weird analogies
