Powerful Photo Of Navy Yard Employee Leading A Blind Colleague Away From The Shooting

Omar Grant, a civilian worker at the Washington Navy Yard, led his blind colleague off the base when he heard gunshots.

After helping his colleague out of the building, Grant gave his first-hand account of the shooting to multiple media outlets on the scene.

"At first I didn't know if someone dropped something," said Grant, who was on the first floor of the five-story atrium when shots rang out.

Grant then left the building immediately after hearing what he counted to be five shots, leaving behind all belongings.

"It was hectic," Grant told reporters.
