Omar Grant (R), a network support worker at the Navy Yard, leads his blind colleague away from the chaotic scene moments after the shooting that killed at least 12.

After helping his colleague out of the building, Grant gave his first-hand account of the shooting to multiple media outlets on the scene.

"At first I didn't know if someone dropped something," said Grant, who was on the first floor of the five-story atrium when shots rang out.

Grant then left the building immediately after hearing what he counted to be five shots, leaving behind all belongings.

"It was hectic," Grant told reporters.
