Whether you are a hard-core athlete or a Sunday-only gym-goer I am sure that by now you heard a lot about protein smoothies and shakes.

In fact, the sports protein powder market in the US has reached $4.7 billion. This says a lot about how mainstream protein shakes got today.

If you have never heard about protein shakes until now, here is how Authority Nutrition defines them.

Now I am curious, have you ever tried one? And if so, did you like its taste?

I remember I tried one once and it tasted so crappy I never wanted it again. But that doesn’t mean they are not good for you.

What it means is that somebody really needs to do something about their taste. Granted, I haven’t tried all of them, but I found a simple way to make them healthier and much more delicious.

How?… you might wonder.

Oh well, I just used a bit of good old-fashioned research and creativity.

Actually, I simply mixed them with a few fruits and super foods powders, like Acai and Spirulina.

Pretty simple huh?

Not only that I made them more delicious, but I also made the protein smoothies a lot healthier.

But taste aside, the best feature of these healthy protein smoothie recipes is that they are great for weight loss and to gain muscle.

That’s not your ordinary smoothie, is it?

These healthy smoothies are protein-packed because I made them with whey protein powder. This makes them extremely filling and perfect to replace a meal with.

Losing weight with protein smoothies

So first I will tell you how to use these protein smoothie recipes for weight loss.

The method is very simple but if you are a passionate foodie like me, replacing meals with protein smoothies is not going to be easy.

However, if you are fighting the extra kilos or striving to get a wasp waist, then… No pain, no gain, right?

So this is how you do it: replace your breakfast and dinner with any of these protein smoothies. And have a lunch that is filling but in the same time healthy. When I kept this diet, I ate a lot of sushi and chicken salads for lunch.

You might like them too, but if raw fish is not your cup of tea, then you can go for a roast duck or Spicy Shrimp with veggies.

Now, if you are used to having three full meals a day (like myself), then replacing any of them with protein smoothies will not be easy, especially in the beginning. I am not going to lie, I could only keep for three days.

After that I simply caved. It wasn’t just because I felt hungry, but mostly because of the flavors that came from other dishes which I was cooking for some clients. I simply couldn’t help myself.

But hey, that was just my first try. I am sure I am going to do better next time and in my defense, it’s a lot harder for a food stylist to be on a diet 🙂

If you are stronger than me, and I am sure most of you are 🙂 , then you need to hold on to the protein smoothies for at least a week or so. That’s when you’ll start seeing real results.

In my opinion, it’s always best to lose weight with protein smoothies rather than fruit smoothies. That’s because they fill and fuel you up a lot better.

Heck, they supercharge you.

Sure, losing weight with fruit smoothies can give results faster, but at the same time, it’s a lot harder because you always feel hungry.

Not a lot of people can do that, but if you are really determined then nothing should stop you.

I am saying unknown because I haven’t tested them for that purpose personally. But every fitness article I found, it promotes protein smoothie recipes as perfect for muscle-building.

If this is your goal, then all you have to do is drink one of my healthy smoothies within 2 hours of training. But remember, to build muscle you shouldn’t replace meals with protein smoothies. This should supplement your meals.

Both diets look really simple, right? Also, both smoothie recipes are so easy to make, within just a few minutes.

So now you got no excuse for not having the waist you always wanted. Except for ice cream. Nothing beats ice cream, wouldn’t you say?

Extreme Green Recipe


This green smoothie is full of healthy fats and protein. It's the perfect smoothie for breakfast as it will supercharge you for the whole day

Ingredients

* one handful of kale leaves stems removed

* 1/4 cup kiwi chunks frozen or fresh

* 1/2 avocado

* 1 Tbsp vanilla whey protein

* 1 Tbsp Spirulina powder

* 1 cup almond milk

Strawberry Milkshake Smoothie Recipe

A delicious protein smoothie recipe, that you can make and serve for breakfast, dessert or after gym

Ingredients

* 1/2 cup strawberries, cut in halves frozen or fresh

* 1 banana

* 1 Tbsp vanilla powder

* 1 Tbsp acai & coconut powder, or use any superfood powder

* 1 cup coconut milk

Instructions

Blend all ingredients until smooth, then pour it into a tall glass and enjoy!
