1. Keep calm and carry on

Most importantly — stay calm!

The Results period can get emotional, but try not to stress. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize.

Exercise to get your endorphins flowing, pull power poses in the mirror and listen to your favourite songs to stay relaxed. To help you stay chilled, listen to our Keep Calm During Clearing playlist on Spotify.

2. Research your course

Via Giphy

A little bit of preparation goes a long way. Make a list of your favourite subjects, head to the UCAS website and make a note of the available courses that fit your interests. Google university websites and learn more about the facilities they offer for your subject.

Don’t be afraid to shop around, get advice from your teachers, and call university admissions advisors. Remember, the content of courses that sound the same can actually be very different, so be as thorough as you can in your research.

3. Weigh up your options

Via Giphy

After you've researched courses, it's time to consider the bigger picture. Where do you want to live for the next three years? Student life isn't just about studying, so think about campus location, sports facilities, societies and support services on offer too. You might have to compromise on your original idea, so pin down your priorities and have a backup plan.

4. Accommodation

Via Giphy

When choosing your university and your course, you also have to consider where you want to live while at uni. Are you going to stay at home, live with friends in private accommodation, or stay in halls? Most unis have a dedicated department that can help you check out the options available to you, like our Accommodation Team at Middlesex University.

5. Dealing with parents / Via Giphy

We've all been there - your family want to help but sometimes they make things worse. Stay in charge by asking them to help you research courses or record the pros and cons of your favourite universities.

You're making a big decision so it's wise to listen to their advice, but remember that this is ultimately your choice.

6. Making the call / Via Giphy

As soon as you have your results, you can start calling universities to apply for their available courses. Be prepared to answer any questions they may have about your relevant experience and interest in the course you’ve chosen. Have a glass of water ready and make sure you're in a quiet space with good phone reception. You can do this!
