Eventually the pair began talking about Michaela's dog, and Michaela jokingly offered to take Alfie to Darcy's house.

“I don’t think Darcy actually thought I would turn up. But I did. And I showed up with my dog at his doorstep,” Michaela told BuzzFeed.

Michaela got her dog, Alfie, 18 months ago, and spends most of her time with him. She told BuzzFeed she found it only fitting that Alfie come with her on her date.

Michaela posted in Cool Dog Group on the way to the date, and the thousands of members were eager for updates. After she got permission from Darcy, Michaela spilled the beans on all the happenings in the dog-human double date.

“The first thing I did was tell Darcy about my post. I didn’t want to invade his privacy and continue along with something he wasn’t comfortable with. I don’t think he really believed me - he still probably doesn’t believe me - but I explained that I had to take photos of our dogs together to keep the hundreds of people updated,” she said.

Among the hundreds of people commenting on the post was Michaela's mum and member of Cool Dog Group, Karen.

"Words can't describe how embarrassed I was by my mum. Though everyone on the post thought it was the most hilarious twist to the whole scenario and said lovely things about how much of a legend she was - which she is."

Michaela's mum actually found out about the date through the post in Cool Dog Group, which Michaela helped her join.

“I’d been nagging her for years to get Facebook until she finally caved in recently and let me sign her up. Big mistake.”

Michaela and Darcy haven't had a second meeting yet, but she is hopeful for another doggy-date soon.

"I haven't spoken to Darcy yet, but here's hoping he isn't too freaked out by my post getting so much attention because it was honestly the last thing I expected," she said.

"Hopefully this article gives me an excuse to message him again."
