The capital of Italy and the birthplace of western civilization, Rome has a lot to offer to the native residents and tourists alike. Indulge in local specialties like fried artichoke and suppli, and sandwich your meals with visits to world-renowned sites like the Roman Forum and Vatican City. To feel like a true local, walk along the Tiber River and hope that the night breeze guides you to the nearest gelateria.

Milan is home to all the glitz and glamour that comes with being one of the fashion capitals of Europe AND a major business hub. Check out the iconic Duomo cathedral, then head out for a pre-dinner aperitivo in the center. To top the night off, check out some world-famous opera at the Teatro alla Scala.

It's true that all of Italy is home to some of the best food in the world, but the stereotype is especially true in Bologna (the country's food capital). Fill your itinerary with bites of everything from classic tagliatelle al ragù alla bolognese to butter and sage tortellini, and sweeten it up with liquor-soaked Zuppa Inglese. When you're ready, walk your meals off with visits to the city's Asinelli tower or one of the city's many charming piazzas.

Bologna

The inspiration for many rom-coms, Florence is the quintessential romantic European town. But there's more to write home about besides lush rolling hills and famous renaissance art. Fill your days munching on Tuscan delights like ribollita soup and Florentine T-bone steak. You'll find the casual trattorias so cozy and the homestyle cooking so perfect you'll mistake every new spot for a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Florence

No other touristy Italian city maintains a serenity quite like Venice. You'll have fun getting lost in the alleys that make up this city, and spend the other half of your time admiring unique waterfront architecture while riding on a gondola. Of course, you can't finish your day without a half dozen cicchetti (pre-dinner appetizer bites) and Venice's seafood-centric specialties like squid ink pasta and fried mini crabs.

Venice

It's the birthplace of pizza and honestly warrants a trip for that reason alone. You'll find plenty to snack on besides saucy 'za though, including sweet babà, fried eggplant, and ricotta-filled sfogliatella. And when you get done strolling through the promenade, you can check out one of numerous stunning castles and cathedrals.
