The Stages Of Attempting To Win A Radio Contest

It's what people do when they don't care to pay attention at work

You're listening to your favorite radio station and hear that they're giving away tickets, money, or some other awesome prize

You chuckle to yourself at the thought of calling in to win

Because really, how many people do you know of that actually call into radio stations?

You hear the DJ announce the prize again and you figure why not, you like free stuff

You think somebody has to win so why can't it be you

And you start to get really excited

You pull out your phone and dial the station's number

And you hear that busy signal...

It's okay you expected this, so you hit redial

Busy again... so you redial again...

You can't stop now because you're committed and you want that prize, you want it bad

So you keep dialing...

And dialing...

And then there's silence... no ringing but no busy signal. So you wait...

It's busy...

So you redial and it finally goes through!

But it rings for what seems like forever, and you can't hang up because you've come so far already

After all your patience the DJ answers but he's waiting for you to say something first

So you give an awkward hi because you're too excited at the possibility of free stuff

The DJ tells you they already have a winner so you hang up and crawl into a ball to wallow in your anguish at all the wasted effort

While recovering you hear the DJ say they're giving away the same prize again in the next hour and your hope comes back

So you set the radio number on speed dial and prepare to go through the whole thing over again
