Getting out on your own for the first time is really exciting, but it can also be intimidating. When you're looking at an apartment, there are so many factors to think about — location, amenities, utilities, and more. And as a first time renter, you might not have known exactly what to look out for.
So to help new renters out there, tell us something that you really wish you'd known before signing your first lease.
Maybe you wish that someone had told you to visit the unit at night before signing your lease so you could get a better sense of how loud it really is when your neighbors are all home. If you'd known that your upstairs neighbors tap dance in their kitchen every night, you probably would've kept looking.
Or perhaps you wish that you had tested out more things in the unit when you toured it, like turning on the faucets to check for bad water pressure or making sure that your phone actually gets reception there. That way, these issues wouldn't take you by surprise after you've already moved in.
Or maybe you wish you'd taken the time to work on your credit score before submitting rental applications. Knowing that your scores could qualify for an apartment before you started looking would've made the whole process a lot less stressful.
