My favorite TV show, period (haha pun). If you're looking for a show with badass women doing what they can to control their own lives and take down the patriarchy, this is it for you. Plus, this show can be super funny, and it showcases strong female relationships. It's literally the most diverse show on this list. Please go watch it. I can't recommend it enough!

"Harlots"

This show may be the most well-known on this list, but it's still not appreciated enough! Following a woman living in a post-WWII who accidentally travels back to 1740s Scotland, this show has action, history, intrigue, and the best romance known to man. The actors are all truly outstanding, as is the setting and score. This show can be extremely dark and does take a bit to build up steam, but if you think you can stomach the violence, I highly recommend it!

"Outlander"

Set in the Roaring 20s in the Weimar Republic of Germany, this show is truly a masterpiece. While the majority of the show focuses on mysteries and thrilling espionage, it also contains romance, humor, and amazing musical numbers. It's not a musical TV show, but it heavily features Berlin nightclubs, so expect some truly jaw-dropping numbers. It's known for being the most expensive German TV show ever made, and if you watch it, you'll understand that every cent paid off.

"Babylon Berlin"

This is most definitely the most heartwarming period drama you'll ever find. Set in 1950s-1960s London, it follows midwives and the nuns with whom they live and work with as they help the women of Poplar. This show has been going strong for 10 years, so you have plenty of episodes to laugh and cry over. If you ever need to watch a show that feels like a warm hug, this is it for you!

"Call the Midwife"

This show set in 1920s-1930s Madrid is just an explosion of girl power. It's all about a group of friends who are trying to live their lives how they want, whether it's being freed from an abusive husband or understanding their sexual orientations and gender identities. The romance in this show is also impeccable! While the last season takes a sharp turn from the rest, as it focuses on the horrors of the Spanish Civil War (I sobbed), this is a really inspiring, amazing show throughout!

"Las Chicas Del Cable (Cable Girls)"

Set in the early 1900s in Spain, this show is all about the mystery and romance in a seaside hotel. The show started my love of Spanish period dramas, and it's so well done! You'll love the rich girl/poor boy romance, the amazing friendships, the drama, and the countless mysteries. It's just such a fun time!

"Gran Hotel (Grand Hotel)"

While I haven't finished this show just yet, I had to include a comedy! This show is so funny, making it a nice escape for period piece lovers who tend to only watch dramas. While it is extremely violent, the humor helps make it a fun watch. It's set in the seventh century and follows the exploits of a clan of, well, Norsemen.
