The film stars Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a man given the opportunity to unlock the genetic memories of his ancient ancestor.

Using a virtual reality machine known as the Animus, Callum discovers he is the descendant of the secret Assassins society.

The film also stars Marion Cotillard, who looks to be part of Abstergo Industries, the modern front for the Templar Order, and those with the Animus.

And the trailer gives us a closer look at Ariane Labed's character, Maria, kicking some serious 15th century ass.

The film is based on a series of video games that follow a centuries-old struggle between two secret societies, the Assassins and the Templars.

While based on the games, the story of Callum Lynch is original to the film, so it's interesting that for the first time we're seeing a bit more of his back story.

We also get a glimpse of what looks like the Animus system... which is a little more intense than just putting on a VR headset.

Assassin's Creed is scheduled to open in cinemas from December.
